How long will you be there? You could bring a few rolls in case you can't find a good store, but why do you need to develop there?

no kidding about the unshaven ladyboys - last week i saw a guy around 45 years old or so walking down shinjuku station in a big frilly pink ballerina's tutu dress and what must have been 2 or 3 day's worth of stubble on his face. yikes
Wow...that image is burnt into my mind...LOL

Tokyo has the greatest array of used camera shops you'll ever see. Google or find a guide. In particular, if you are interested in gear, go to Fujiya in Nakano (three stores). Nakano is one stop outside Tokyo on one of the main train lines. Lots of shops near Shinjuku. Enjoy.

I'm pretty sure Gabor is younger than 45 years old.

I'll be there for 30 days, so I will need to process a few batches there. Taking film with me isn't a huge deal - the processing is more important.

I'll probably be way too broke to buy cameras after all the other expenses, but it sounds tempting!

definitely take a look at fujiya and map camera. they often have old screw mount lenses for cheap, especially in the case of fujiya. fujiya doesn't have much rangefinder lens selection but they always have a case full of very very cheap leicas (i saw an m5 there for around 40,000yen last week).
i managed to pick up a 1933 elmar with completely mint glass for 9,000yen (90$) a few weeks ago. just got the first shots back and they're great.
