Anyone ever own or use one? On the auction site early this morning, did not need it but something made me bid. I thought I had "gas" under control but have fallen of the wagon

I learned how to take pictures on a NC1000. Only difference between the two is the film reminder on the back. It's incredibly reliable, and the 50 1.7 (which I assume is what you got with yours) is very sharp and very contrasty. There's a shutter priority mode by switching to A on the aperture ring, and if you hold the shutter down halfway, you can lock exposures if you're into that. It's much smaller than most SLRs. I believe it was Mamiya's attempt to make a budget SLR to compete with the OM-1. I love mine. My only complaint is that the lenses are very rare.

There was a fairly long thread on this camera last year titled "Another camera RFF could love". Just search for "Mamiya NC1000".

The NC1000 was badged for Sears Roebuck for a few years.

The lenses are wonderful. There is web site for these and the successor Mamiya 35mm, which ended up being the series that Mamiya ceased 35mm. It was not a problem with the quality of the camera. The quartz timed Mamiya ZE, ZE2, ZE-X and ZM were great shooters. I had a number of them.

This site is a collector site for these cameras and has information on the NC1000, as well.

Enjoy!!!

I loved mine and all the lenses. I think I probably posted on an earlier thread but you should take care to lock the meter (button on top of advance arm) when not using the camera. It eats up batteries if that little button is left up. Otherwise it is a great and under appreciated compact SLR. David Tomei

Thank you, read the whole thread. Never bought a camera before with researching it some. Just knew I had to have it:^)

NC1000 have a good reputation here, and when I owned one (dead) it felt quality with its Olympus OM-esque shutter speed dial :)

Enjoy it!

My only Olympus was the OM-10 which I liked, my youngest daughter talked me out of that kit
ALthough the fit and finish of the body and lenses is a cut below the OMs, the optical quality of the system is excellent. And the AE-lock is a real bonus.

Not sure about fit and finish, but I am pleased with the two lens that I got with it, the shutter speed on lens does not feel natural yet. But I have only ran one roll through it.

Found a chrome NC1000s with 1.7/50mm at a thrift store today.

They let me have it for EUR 3.00

Cleaned the camera up, took the ground glass out and cleaned it, took front and rear elements out the lens and cleaned beginning haze out, tomorrow I will fit new seals.

It makes more sense to me than an Olympus, with its ASA dial where any sane camera designer put a shutter dial... :)

The small size is a real bonus.

I think I'm gonna love mine!
