Canon LTM HU: Nice looking Canon 85mm F1.5 on auction

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
The Hood is super-rare. Great lens.

I paid $250 for my hood, when I owned this lens (although not this particular one!) :D:D From Kevins Cameras. Only ones I have ever seen.

Cheapest hood Kevin has at the moment I think is $300, looks like he's been selling some as I remember there being more.
This lens seems to extend the serial number range of Peter's type 3 by nine lenses. Perhaps it is the uber rare type 2+ ;^)

A Rodenstock Large Format Lenscap works just great for capping off the end of the 85mm F1.5 Canon Hood. Won't damage it either. I used it alot on M-5 and didn't want to deplete the battery in the camera.

Thanks for the link. I'll be watching this to see where the price finishes. I have a truly superb copy to sell. Was thinking around $650 (w/original cap, finder, case) but, another member suggested that was low currently. It's a sweet lens but I rarely use it.

Not the complete set but the hood and cap are also in pretty nice shape. A darn nice ltm/m adapter too. It's hard to put a value on this stuff anymore. I looked occasionally for a year and saw none (except Kevin's). Now two recently.

I bought the 85/1.5 for about $400. It is the last version, based on Peter's book.

Okay, for those who need the hood -

If you can pick up the kit for $650 I'll buy the lens off of you for $450. You can even keep the cap. ;)

Looks like Esnipe will not be bothering to place my bid...

Current high bidder appears to be bidding on German Ebay consistently, of course the real bidding happens in the last six seconds.

Edit: Wow, $827.00 shipped. I'd call that quite a bargain (Largely because I don't want to put $3500+ into a 75/1.4)

Hi.

Nope, it is an early T3 but does close the gap up between a T2 and T3. Once I get a close enough gap then I can tell an approx on how many T2 and T3 were produced. The T2 was a solid chrome lens.

Here are pics of the three variations of the 85mm f1.5 hood. T1 hood is UBER rare as I have only seen one other in 20yrs of searching. T2 and T3 are about even. The change in the "C" happened around May 1957 and was implemented across all Canon Inc items.

It is interesting to note that the form of the script on the Hoods matched that on the relevant lens.

Makes accessories another nightmare in collecting if you want all the versions...I swore when I found that out!

Wonderful information Peter, thank you for chiming in! What a massive project you've undertaken given the myriad of changes Canon made through the years. Looking a little more closely on Kevin's site, I see there are still a number of 85/1,5 hoods there, I just missed them initially. All type 2 it appears, the one with case... $450:eek:

I guess since they aren't making any more of them...

Hi Peter,
My 85/1.5 is the last version made based on your book. After I informed you about my lens, its rarity status went down!:D:D:D

Good to see you here.

Hi
Nope, saw it on the black camera link here

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126670

but forgot to reply to the guy in Japan.

I checked out my official Canon Price list from 1968 and there is no mention of a black f1.4. In fact there is no mention of any black lenses for black cameras probably because the model 7 was the last to be made in black, by request, in 1964.

My guess it is that it may have been issued in Japan only or is a prototype/one of?

It is certainly a black lens.

As a courtesy to interested parties, as they are all pretty much here in the same thread, I've an extra 85/1.5 hood that Ill be listing for trade. Ideally looking for 85/1.5 marked filters (Ha! I know), caps, or other Canon stuff. Recognize the potential etiquette breach but its a free listing anyway and there are probably only a dozen people interested in the world...
