My Pixii test camera arrived today.

The packaging design is extremely well done and Apple like. If "Apple" were on the box, the Pixii's packaging could pass for a new Apple product. Very minimalist, very classy.

Out of the box the Pixii appears on first impression extremely well crafted and Leica like. If "Leica" was on the top plate, on looks Pixii could pass for a new type of Leica camera.

The Rangefinder / Viewfinder is extremely good, very bright, and Leica like, yet not quite up to the Leica standard for contrasting images. If "Leica" was on the top plate, the Pixii's rangefinder / viewfinder could pass for a new Leica design.

The shutter is virtually silent, probably as close as you will ever get to silent in a camera, with a top speed of 1/32,000 no less. No other M mount camera, nor any other commercially available still camera, can match such speeds and silence that I am aware of.

It intrigues me any new camera company could generate such an initial first impression of quality right out of the gate on their first camera.

For sure this is once over VERY lightly, but I am happily surprised.

Not a bad start.

Bests to everyone,

Stephen

Congratulations, Stephen. You sound very happy. Let us know as you discover things about your new camera,

After reviewing PIXII’s updated website, I think I’m starting to understand the idea a little better and am warming up to it. Good luck with this new venture Stephen.

Is Pixii the first camera to allow simple, seamless workflow for image upload from camera to the web/social media? If so they may have a promising future. This is something Canisonykon still haven't got right, and a major reason why smartphones have eaten traditional camera markets. However the price and compatibility with manual M-mount lenses would limit the market to enthusiasts like, er, RFF members. Still, I wish them every success; it's great to see a new digital rangefinder released in the current market.

Good to hear the camera feels solid.

For me, the most important & unique characteristic of the camera is the ability to edit the color profiles (as adobe dng profiles) and upload them back into the camera. This is not the same as changing simple parameters such as saturation, contrast, etc. It makes it possible to create any film stock you like. It is something that I have been waiting for so long for camera companies to implement and it was such a simple thing to allow. It might push me to spend 2700 euros.

I like the philosophy behind Pixii. The only thing that I would have liked differently is a 1:1 viewfinder, but I know many people like their wide angle lenses...

Any modern mirrorless camera usually has an electronic shutter. For example, the Fuji X100 series has the option of a whisper-quiet leaf shutter, or with the T onwards the silent electronic shutter at up to 1/32,000.

Most people given the option still tend to use the mechanical shutter, because of rolling shutter with the electronic version.

Pixii has a global electronic shutter.

Rolling shutter on the Fuji and most any other mirrorless camera.

The Pixii has a global shutter which reads the entire shutter at the same instant so there is no rolling shutter distortions.

His "test" camera...

I look forward to hearing more about your impressions Stephen. I has a lot going against it in today's digital camera climate (price, sensor, etc), but it has a few good ideas too. It is beautiful to look at that is for sure...

Interesting new camera. Am happy they managed to complete it, so many kickstarter duds these days and even Zeiss similar attempt is significantly delayed.

New venture? Is Camera Quest going to be carrying this product?

Pictures speaks louder than words. If we are into real meaning of photography.
I mean, pictures taken by camera, not pictures of the camera and bla-bla-bla about how camera feels and what it does, except photography.
And this is what bugs me. Their site has no pictures taken with camera. I was not able to find one. 35something review has one and half picture and load of bla-bla-bla.

If I see something which supposed to do something particular and here is no evidence, easy accessible examples how exactly it does it, to me it is big no-no.

I'm getting funny feeling what new marketing concept in selling of photo cameras is not about pictures, but how you feel and look while taking pictures. Would it be Perxii or X-Bro3.

Aw shucks, tuck your shirt in. Anything new breaks up the in-home life, I am living.;) (meant to be humorous, not offensive).

New? Sounds like you have not seen Leica marketing for the last 20 years

There's nothing about this that you haven't been able to do with any camera given raw file output and the Adobe DNG Profile Editor for ten years now, other than upload your own CCP into the camera. Why you'd want to do that with a camera that does not have its own LCD is a mystery to me.

Digital images don't have film. But they can be manipulated to simulate any film you want.
