Greenville Mississippi - the Hot Tamale Capital of the World (so it proclaims) Only those familiar with Mississippi history could appreciate the significance of the Tamale King being a negro while the Queen was white.

Patron at Po Monkey's juke joint outside Merigold Mississippi. Po Monkey's was one of the last real old time juke joints where there would be a group of regular locals on one side of you and a group of British blues fans on the other side. Sadly, Willie Seaberry, known as "Monkey" died in 2016 and the legend died with him. This patron owned a smaller new juke joint which was open on a different night so she and Po Monkey patronized each other.

Also from Po Monkey's juke joint. See previous photo for details.

technical details: shot on film since I didn't use a digital camera then. Had to be Neopan 400, Tri-X, or HP5 since that was all I shot. Developed in HC-110 since that was my only 35mm developer. Looks like a 21mm lens, either a Biogon on a ContaxG or a Voigtlander Skopar on a Zeiss Ikon. I never paid much attention to any of those things but I do have the subjects name back in my notes.
