I am always interested in hearing what you guys got for Christmas (photographic or not).

Since the age of 13, Christmas presents have always been photographic related one way or another. It is fair to say that Santa is the saint of photography in my mind.

So after a few months of online/charity shop scavengering, Santa this year was a Minolta fan.

So.... freshly picked up from under the Christmas tree...

Merry Christmas  to everyone!

I have so many warm and fond photography related memories throughout the years, but for this Christmas season, no new photographic toys to speak of.

Wishing everyone good cheer and good health as we enter 2023! Enjoy your new toys and Happy Shooting!

My lovely bride got me a FujiFilm Instax Mini 40. Like her, it's adorable. Has a real "nostalgic" look. Can't wait to try it out.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone.

Best,
-Tim

Not only did Santa deliver some new items in 2022, his elves restored a few of my broken cameras too! If that's not the definition of an overachiever, I dunno what is.

Santa was never much good for anything besides new socks. :) Since I'm old, a bit plump, and have a beard, I can be my own Santa. A new Leica M6, please!

Wait… you have a beard? For some reason I always pictured you as a tall Groucho Marx, but weather-beaten in the southwestern desert climate.

But socks, yes, for decades my only Christmas present was a pair of socks from my grandmother.

A photographic aspect to this: I distinctly remember one Christmas, maybe 1970, my father, grandmother, and I traveling to visit my aunt. Upon the opening of presents, I had my one present (socks) and my cousins opened theirs. My older male cousin got a nice Minolta rangefinder from his mom! To me it was such a luxurious present; I was stunned. Even as a kid I knew a lot about photography at that time. I had an 8mm ciné camera, which I bought by saving money for six months, but only a simple 127-format roll film camera. My cousin wasn’t even interested in photography.

So today nearly everyone is gone from what was once a large family. That cousin is still alive, but I know when his mom passed away a few years ago he tossed all the photos of his side of the family even though I was willing to take them. A similar thing happened 20 years ago with another cousin when his wife tossed their collection. As a consequence, I have only about 40% of the photos, some dating back to the late 1800’s.

For Christmas I did add something to my vast collection, but not photography related.

Gonna count the 10 rolls of HP5+ (35mm) 36 exp. as my Christmas gift to me...
Possibly looking for another lens, not sure which one or for what purpose...

We have good health and a family that is delighted with a simple, yet beautiful, life. That is enough. The 10x rolls of Tri-X I snagged before it went above $8 a few months ago feels like a present!

5 rolls of FP4, 5 rolls of HP5 and with my Christmas money today I bagged an Olympus XA4

Father Christmas sent me a new Sonnar.

My wife- asks for hints, and I ended up with a Pair of APO Lanthars, 85/3.5 in S-Mount and 90/3.5 in LTM.
