Oh I like to be at the seaside... oh I do like to be beside the sea

Wandering around the West Mooring Basin again. Trying out a sweet CV 35mm LTM f/1.7. This shot is at f/5.6, a sweet spot for the lens but the ISO is at the upper limit for an M9, 2500. Still not bad. I don't have the shakes, yet. Shutter: 1/12. The extra glow is because we were overcast with drifting fog at the time I shot this.

And just to demonstrate arrogance, here is one at 1/8, still f/5.6.

Nope! This isn’t uncommon. It finally gave up and regurgitated the poor sea star. Gulls will try to eat the darnedest things and are notorious for grabbing food from peoples hands.

I have been posting pics of boats in our harbor here in town, Astoria, OR, for some time now. And recently this one of a crabber getting ready to set pots in the 73 hour period before opening day on 1 February this year.

So what is the result of all this loading up of boats to go out in the awfully cold and wet weather for these tasty Dungeness crabs? Tonight I went to the annual "Crab Feed" which is a fund raiser for those folks who are out there on the water in the awful weather. Should they suffer tragedy the profits of these annual crabs feeds are in a fund to help out with bills and groceries and whatever else is needed. They are a tough crowd who pull pots but decent. We had a huge fire across the Columbia just before crab season opened and just about all the pots in Ilwaco were burned up. Crab fisherman up and down the Washington and Oregon coast and down into California loaned those fellows who suffered losses pots from their inventories. That's respectable behavior.

So what about the crab? Here is what $20 will get you, $18 for old farts like me who get the geezer discount. And while those legs and claws are fat, there is at least as much meat in the body. And it was so good.

Another photographer at the beach today, we didn't talk, we didn't even make eye contact...
sometimes that's how it is around here. We keep to ourselves.
