The hood is good, but I often leave it off. A brass cap is easily found for well under $350, the difference between this offer and what they can sell for.

if you can get this lens to flare you should get a dollar prize.  Of any rf lens to not need a hood in my experience it is this one...

I like to use lens hoods to provide physical protection for the lens' front element when not using a protective filter (e.g. shooting at night where filters can cause light source reflections). It's not just about flare.
