Anyone going to Bastogne on the weekend of the 12th and 13th of December?
The 65th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge and the Defence of Bastogne will be celebrated that weekend with several VIPs visiting the city. Including a lot of US Airborne veterans.
The "Bastogne Historical Walk" is held on the 12th starting at the Centre Sportif, a hike that will take you past several historical locations from the 'Battle of the Bulge'. Along the route re-enactors will be manning several displays, from foxholes to aidstations.
At 17:00 there will be a re-enactment battle held at Vaux-sur-Sure.
At 20:00 there will be a big memorial service at the Mardasson Monument near Bastogne.
On Sunday the 13th, a large column of WW2 vehicles will move through the area ending at Vaux-sur-Sure for a second battle. After that there will be a gathering at Mardasson again for a parade through Bastogne itself.
Anyone interested in snapping pictures of Historical vehicles, or re-enactors in historical settings, this is for you! The area will be flooded with them.
I myself will be bunked down in the village of Assenois, dressed up as an Official US War Photographer.
