Bessa Porn?

Got my R2M today and I like the gloss paint finish!

Feels smaller than I remember any of my M's being? Likely trivial.

Gonna grab some fresh batteries after work and I've already got Tmax 100 loaded with my 50/2.0 Super-Rokkor. The Rokkor I've been trying to sell but my Summar and a IIIc are on loan to a friend. Might be looking for another 50 soon! 7Artisans is alluring.

I vent through all ten pages. Great memories and tools! And new additions!!!

My first Bessa. I used it from mint to well used condition and sold cheap here at RFF.

But maybe I have L before. Or after...

And T later on...

Nice collection of Bessas Ko.Fe!

A shot of my Bessa nestled in a Tenba mini messenger bag.

It's funny how you can have such a connection to a certain camera. I spent years dreaming of owning a Bessa, and always watched excitedly as the various evolutions of the body appeared on the Voigtlander website. For one reason or another I never actually bought one. When the final A/M models were released I knew I couldn't let a new one pass me by again. But somehow I did. Life got in the way, money went in to digital kit to pay the bills, and eventually one morning while browsing through RFF I happened across the news that the Bessa line was discontinued. The race was on. Luckily Aperture in London had a mint condition R3A in at the time and it was mine later that afternoon. A few months later they took in a mint condition 35/2.5ii which I obligingly added to my bag. Now that I have the body and lens combination I'd drooled over for years I've found my motivation to get out and produce my work has gone through the roof. It's funny how certain cameras just feel like they belong in your hands.

I just took delivery of this beauty!
My first interchangeable Rangefinder camera, and oh my, from the moment i looked through the finder i was in love!

Very very happy with this purchase, i just hope my Jupiter doesnt need to be adjusted, (the red line for the DoF scale is a bit off-center, is that normal?)

BTW, if you are wondering how I can use the Jupiter 12 on Bessa, the answer is - I can not. It is solely for the "porn" purpose :-D

R2M is getting little bit dusty since I used it for Hamilton project with Ultron 28 1.9.

I added VF eyecup and serviced, modified Canon 50 1.8 with focus tab travel between 3 and 9 o'Clock on M mount cameras.

Very nice shots of the Bessa-L, Mike... And it helps that it's a good looking camera. I had one with the same Snapshot Skopar, liked it but didn't use it much so it all went to another RFF member..

Thank you, Doug, it is a good looking camera. I don’t use mine all that much either but I plan to keep it. It’s the only Bessa-L I’ve ever seen with silver knobs instead of black.

Treading dangerous ground...Kids, don't try this at home!

Just to prove it can be done...

Conventional wisdom is that the LZOS Jupiter-12 35/2.8 whether adapted or native mount is not compatible with Bessa rangefinders. I have no doubt that such is commonly true for most versions of said lens and said cameras and even a few issued by the makers of adapters. Amadeo says do not do for the adapter pictured in the photo above.

I took this advice strongly at face value until it was suggested to me that it might not be true (thank you Colton Allen). Sure enough, my late production Bessa R3M has cut-out's in the light baffles, top and bottom, that appeared adequate for clearance. A little careful testing in "B" mode proved this to be true, hence this photo. Note that there may still be an issue with earlier production Jupiter-12 and particularly with the Biogon 35mm since that lens has a protective collar around the rear element. There may also still be problems with other Voigtländer models. Test before jamming a lens into that opening. YMMV.

I might also note that the bulbous rear on the lens obscures the meter cell, so no TTL metering with this one mounted. FWIW, my LTM copy also fits.

So that all is clear...

Bessa R3M, sn 0002025
LZOS Jupiter-12 35/2.8 (Contax/Kiev), sn 8006281
LZOS Jupiter-23 35/2.8 (LTM), sn 8206732

When mounting, set lens to to minimum focus distance. Likewise, it is preferable to set to MFD before attempting removal. Clearance is very tight to the top and bottom molding at infinity. I don't think I would recommend this combination for general shooting.

I saw someone else has this same configuration a few pages back, but I think it's a perfect mating between camera and lens:
