Hi all
Hope someone might be able to shed light on a shutter speed issue I’m having with a Canon 7. All speeds sound good throughout the range other than 1/30 which fires at approx 1 second and 1/15 which fires at approx 1/2 second. I experienced the same issue on a Canon VI a few months back that I ended up returning to the seller. Any ideas on what might cause this issue really appreciated!!

Apologies, 1/15 fires at approx 1 sec and 1/30 fires at approx 1/2 sec…

Probably have dirt or dried-out lube in the slow-speed gear train. It needs to be cleaned and re-lubed. Easy job, for a repair tech.

Here’s a quick update in case anyone experiences the same issue. Cleaning the slow speed mechanism didn’t address the issue this time… I failed to mention though that I had removed the body cover as I’m in the process of cleaning the whole shutter mechanism. The issue this time was that those two speeds won’t fire correctly with the body cover off as they rely on the mechanism attached to the case to disengage the slow speed mechanism on those 2 speeds. I reattached the cover and all works as it should!
With the canon VI that I returned the issue was also there with the cover on, so I reckon it could have been an easy fix with a clean of the mechanism on the case and the slow speed mechanism….
A happy ending and not far off rescuing what was a very dilapidated Canon 7!

Camera fixed and ready to load - check out the before and after pics showing the repaint that a previous owner had done that resulted in the frame selector being painted stuck on 35... all sorted now : )
If anyone has a spare flash connector part from a parts camera that they would be willing to sell me, please get in touch!

Hi, I made an account here just to say: thank you so much for this. I have just taken mine apart and cleaned the slow speed mechanism, and was so confused about why 1/15 and 1/30 weren't working properly. I did have a suspicion it was something related to the case, but this confirmed it. I don't know why the videos showing this don't mention this at all... Thank you!
