Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 50mm F1.5 Limited Edition Nikon S Mt 1st Photos

I got an Amedeo adapter for my S Sonnar as Jonmanjiro had suggested and see no focus shift at f/1.5 on the M7.

BTW now I have the adapter which Nikkor 50mm should I get? :)

Ah-ha, so you did go with an Amedeo adapter Ray. Pretty cool combo hey. I have no problem focusing at f1.5 either on my ZI.

Now that you have the adapter, the next lens is an easy choice. Its gotta be a Millennium Nikkor 50/1.4!

It is the highest quality adapter I have ever used. I have several Contax RF adapters made from FSU mounts and the Amedeo as we say in the 70's it's the joint! I was thinking about something much cheaper but if I come across one without the body I might be tempted.

jonmanjiro - I'm trying to figure out how many were made - can you post a picture of the Serial number of the lens or email me ? thanks

Didn't realise so many serial numbers had been posted in this thread. So far we've got the 10 below.

Do you have one Max? We really must get together!

Yes, I have one (and an amedeo adapter). I am out of HK for the moment but I will let you know when I am back and we could meet at Belgos.

I bought the Bessa R2S just for this lens. I am thinking of getting an old Nikkor 50/1.4 as well but I am not sure which model to go for. The Millenium renders almost like the Summilux 50/1.4 ASPH but I also want one with the good old sonnar look.

yo guys! just curious.. is this lens can be mounted on a contax/kiev body without any problem? i tried using the sonnar opton 1.5 in my s2 and it seems fine.. haven't checked the nikkor 1.4 in my contax IIIa or kiev body yet..

It can be mounted, but focus close up and at wide apertures will be off. Here's the chart in the Bessa R2S/C manual that shows you what you can expect.

X = out of focus
O = in focus

How is the lens comparing to the 50/1.4 millennium ? I had the sonnar in M mount a while ago. It was optimized for F2.8 though I could never tell the difference. The bokeh was extremely creamy with the 3d affect though I don't think it was as sharp as some of the 50s I have used in the past (nikon 50/1.2 ais, canon 50/1.2 L, etc...).
It looks pretty sweet but I guess I don't need another 50s lens for the nikon system...

The Millennium is the undisputed king of Nikon RF lenses when it comes to performance at f1.4 (f1.5). With the Millennium at f1.4, you can see a plane of sharpness across the entire field.

I just purchased 15715305!

Excited to use my Amedeo adapter and have the 'ZM' experience with a proper focusing knob on my M.

Henry Scherer has carried out tests on this limited edition lens and he is in no doubt that this lens said to be set for Nikon S is in fact set at the factory to give correct focusing on a Contax camera and NOT a Nikon.
He says Zeiss have made a mistake but they obvously will not say so.
I have one of these lenses and it's just fine on my contaxes.
Have a look at what he says on his site...zeisscamera.com

15715182 - Adding mine

Btw, the rear element on mine developed some kind of condensation over the years. Only realised it when I shot wide open at infinity and noticed glow. Was hoping to find a replacement but is almost impossible to find one now. Contacted Zeiss Singapore agent and happy to report, they are able to send mine back to Cosina for repair. Estimated wait time is about 5 weeks or so. Cost me around $500 USD to replace the rear element and recalibrate the lens.

The other lens I have in S-mount is the Millennium Nikkor 50 f1.4. Both lenses are currently on gen 2 version of Amadeo adapter. Can't wait to have this lens reunite back with its Nikkor brother.

Here's a photo of the condensation.

I paid $1,000 for my copy but they come up so rarely that it's hard to say what the market is.

YMMV but I'd pay the $500 service cost for a new element from Zeiss -- there will come a time when that service is no longer available and it's nice to keep as many of these in circulation as possible.
