I've owned the Summicron 50mm on and off for 17 years and recently decided that I preferred the rendering of the Zeiss ZM Planar. The Leica (current) Summicron is quite the lens and an achievement to be so incredible for over 3 decades.

Today, I have the Planar in my bag and couldn't be happier, especially considering its amazing price/quality ratio. Its drawing is quite similar to the Summicron except with a little extra bite wide open, slightly higher contrast and better flare suppression...but enough of the talk, lets let the pictures do the talking.

haha, you must succumb to your Planar desires HH!

btw, what 50mm are you rockin' these days? Nokton, Sonnar, something else?

The Planar is a very nice lens. I owned it an a Hexanon 50 for a while. I ultimately kept the Hexanon, but the decision was based on ergonomics and perceived build quality rather than image quality.

A Planar photo:

Good move Helen. I'm surprised you didn't like the Sonnar, cause I absolutely love it....anyway, the Planar is one of those lenses you can't go wrong with. The f/2 aperture is forgiving enough with focus and it performs brilliantly, considering the operator does too  ...not always

Just be sure to post your results in this thread once it's rocked your boat
