I’ve got one coming today. It sounds like firmware 03 fixed the slow AF that plagues it’s reviews.

I'll revive this thread ! When I bought my A7 III last year I bought the Sony FE f/1.8 as it was only $250.
Optical quality is very good. Shots at f/5.6 are very sharp. Yes, it's made of plastic but the AF is quick & accurate. Great for TTL flash as well. This niffy 50 should be in every A7 owner's kit bag.
