The Toon! Good to see a "real" sport here.Being riddled with arthtitis, having 3 young kids and working a 3- shift rotating pattern mean I can’t play it anymore but of course my sport is football.

Aye, a long suffering fan. Old enough to remember the entertainers before they were torn apart and then the Bobby Robson era. Just happy to be making some positive progress even though it might not look like it just now 🤣The Toon! Good to see a "real" sport here.

Ah, yes... football, the only sport that can go 90 minutes, end with a 0-0 draw, and fans will still say it was a good game. 😅Good to see a "real" sport here.
(I was a Derby County fan as a kid... that might explain my stance on football now. 😂)

I recall reading something from a player a few years ago saying that St. James' Park was his favorite place to play -- regardless of the weather or the opponent, always 50,000 in the stands.

Well, at least they play the full 60, or 90. Compare the National Football League, where the nominal game time is 60 minutes but actual play is more like 8 or so. Ridiculous.Ah, yes... football, the only sport that can go 90 minutes, end with a 0-0 draw, and fans will still say it was a good game. 😅

as the song goes “am coming home.. Newcastle, if you never win the cup again… I’d brave the dark at St. James park in the Gallowgate end in the rain”I recall reading something from a player a few years ago saying that St. James' Park was his favorite place to play -- regardless of the weather or the opponent, always 50,000 in the stands.
And no, they didn’t ever win the cup again. We’re probably one of the if not THE most unsuccessful of the big clubs in England 😳🤣

As a Villa fan, I think we can rival Newcastle in the futility department -- I think maybe I don't have to worry about relegation these days, but nothing is certain.as the song goes “am coming home.. Very true mate. I’d say both our clubs are quite equals. Both have money and ambitious and being stifled too. Shame. But such is the nature of the beast eh.As a Villa fan, I think we can rival Newcastle in the futility department -- I think maybe I don't have to worry about relegation these days, but nothing is certain.

Take a quick glance at the size of this post below. If long, overly wordy posts are not your thing then you’ll definitely want to skip this one.
Up until just a few years ago, baseball was the only major team sport that I followed closely for most of my life. These days the only sporting competitions that I tend to pay any attention to at all are various racing events. Dirt bike racing (MX, SX) is by far my favorite — likely because I grew up on two wheels playing around in the dirt. But I tend to enjoy watching just about any racing event where the winner is determined by whoever happens to finish first (or is the quickest in timed events) and where the officiating crew typically plays only a minor role (if any role at all) in the outcome of the competition. Downhill ski racing, speed skating, running events (sprinting and distance events alike), motor sports in most forms all have a good chance of capturing my attention.
Not that any of the above really matters here on a photography forum. But the thing is, it wasn’t until later on in life that I became enamored with rangefinders and focusing more on capturing people and everyday life. Trying to capture the action that takes place within sports and action in general is what served to turn me onto the possibilities that photography went beyond merely taking basic snapshots. By the time was in high school I had lost interest in playing team sports of any kind. Yet while I did not care for the likes of football or basketball for example, I did enjoy trying to capture the action within these sports as best I could (a good challenge given my equipment at the time). If my little podunk high school had fielded a soccer team, I likely would have enjoyed trying to capture the action within that sport as well. Thus while I might not care for or even dislike certain sports, I can still appreciate those images that manage to do a good job of capturing the action that is a part of any sport.
I sometimes might appreciate even more a photographers ability to convey the mood of any given sport when it proves be very hard to convey the action or the athleticism it contains. Rockclimbing comes to mind here as I used to participate in this activity and understand how challenging it can be to capture the dynamics at play. For an example of what I am talking about, I would point to @Rikard ‘s wonderful image found back on post #99 of this thread.
Meanwhile, the images posted by @Mark240590 and @hap above speak not only to the mood of those sports, but more to the experience of being a fan rather than an athlete. I can appreciate these as well — even when the subject matter is of soccer 😂. The bottom line is that while this thread might seem a bit out of place on a rangefinder forum (I do realize that it has grown into so much more these days), I still enjoy checking in on it regularly despite the fact that I do not consider myself to be a sports fan. Thanks to everyone who contributes images here. The only downside is that I sometimes leave this thread longing for the use of a 35mm SLR once again, or heaven forbid a DSLR perhaps!
For years now, make that decades, I have been trying to get it through the minds of those around me that I cannot overemphasize enough just how much I strongly dislike the sport of soccer/football/futbol (it doesn’t matter what people call it, my feelings are the same). I used to regularly tell people that I hated soccer in hopes of avoiding the subject altogether, but later realized this was a bit harsh. Despite my feelings, I continue to encounter new friends who seem to think that they will somehow be the one to turn my mind around on this subject. It probably doesn’t help when I admit to having throughly enjoyed the show Ted Lasso. But inevitably it always ends in failure for those trying to convert me. 😂 Despite my own feelings about soccer, I can still respect the fact that others are obsessed with it.Ah, yes... football, the only sport that can go 90 minutes, end with a 0-0 draw, and fans will still say it was a good game. 😅

I'm guessing that whoever bought these from me via Ebay were nearly as interested in the stickers that were still intact as they were with the boards themselves. To be honest, I totally get it - those are some iconic bits of vintage equipment, more or less the Leica and Contax of their field and era. One of the guys in London still uses Tracker Midtracks (although there are much better wheels out there now than something like the old Road Rider 4s - urethane compounds have come a long way - a good truck design will always hold up), but most of the old slalomers who insist on using old guy swear by Lazers.
I'm definitely more of a Tracker guy myself. Fultracks for freestyle, Sixtracks for bowl. And, until recently, they were both still made in the USA.

I used to be a big NFL fan as a kid and young man. More and more I saw what a big time waste it is to watch (3+ hours per game, with only a few minutes of actual action). The gladiator mentality and extreme testosterone vibe is a major turnoff, as well as the hyper-marketing (like the Super Bowl halftime show -- who cares about a halftime show??). Yes, this is true of a lot of professional sports, but American football (and I include college football in this as well) is the supreme example. I really can't be bothered with it.I am very into NFL american football, even though I played Div 1 College soccer.
But I know I'm out of step with much of the country on this.

Those are absolute things of beauty. I look at the photos of top-level guys riding those boards back in the day and it frankly amazes me what they were doing on them. Absolute death traps compared to what we have at our disposal today!I'm guessing that whoever bought these from me via Ebay were nearly as interested in the stickers that were still intact as they were with the boards themselves.

(photo very much not by me, obviously!)
Tiny wheelbases, no stability, not a lot of width to stand on, no safety gear worth a damn (even if it was being used), terrain that was never designed to be ridden with a skateboard, and abject stubbornness.
...and from this, an olympic sport was born. Wild.

I’ve never been the kind to try and make someone interested in something they’re not. For what it’s worth, I can sort of talk formula 1. Cricket notes me though.
