One of my first XX inages. Leica M2 with M2 Rapidwinder directly from TomA :) ADOX Borax D76 Dev and Replenisher, 85mm F1.5 Canon (wide-open at F1.5). Good for cloudy days. I rolled down my car window and did this shot. I bracketed in half stops up and down to give myself a choice

The Canon 85mm F1.5 vaporizes the background which I like

The 25mm Canon is a special lens. I sort of miss mine, but then, I have the 24mm MD Rokkor-X. So I am set. I'm starting to load my SRT's and SR-M's with +X 5231 which I will guesstimate at EI 80 as a start. Continuing on with the D23 1:1 or 1:3. Like what I am getting!

Can't help to be impressed with the little Canon 25mm lens. Sharp. Mounted on a Canon IVSB2, it makes for a nice compact package. Here's another from my recent trip to Calumet, Michigan. As before 5222-XX in Xtol.

Double-X in the Leica M7 during a short visit to L'viv, Ukraine. Developed in HC-110 (B). Still a pretty strong contrast and some grain.
Summarit F/2,5-75mm lens.

I like the shot, even with the grain. I've been using D-76, and getting acceptably fine grain, not noticeable in an 8 x 10. I'm thinking I ought to try it in XTOL, though.

Second Exposure. I yelled out " ONE TWO THREE" and got it just right this time Difficult to catch at the "decisive moment". SRT with mirror lockup engaged, 21mm Rokkor QH Eastman XX 5222 Minolta Yellow filter D23 1:1 This lens has replaced my 19mm Canon RF lens. I think I like it just as well.

A very interesting subject--I like that building. I like how it looks with 5222, and I like how 5222 looks with XTOL. I was just thinking of trying that combination--and now I think I will.

I've loaded up ten rolls of 36 exposure of Eastman 5231 Plus-X and am starting to run it through my Minolta SRM's and SRT's. First run in 1:1 D23 Unicolor Uniroller Patterson tank 9 minutes at 70F look pretty darn luscious. It's the original 80 ASA Plus-X formula or thereabouts. With the soft development of D23 has a retro look to it I find appealing. I'll stay with this combo as I still have most of a 400 foot roll to spool up. I did order some more Metol from Photographer's Formulary. With XX and +X I am happy-happy.

I recall shooting XX 4x5 sheets at Brooks Institute of Photography in the early 1970s.
That was ALL we shot ...and rated it at 100.

It made lovely prints...well, would you expect less on 11x14, 8x10 enlargements or 4x5 contact prints?

XX Exposure Guide by Nokton48, on Flickr

TomA sent me this in an email, I created this in word and cutout and glued to backs of old film boxes. I put memo holders on all my Minolta SRT's and SRM's.

I think some might find these useful, they fit in with the title of this thread. I find I concentrate more on lighting and composition when I am not messing around calculating exposures. If I like something I make extra exposure increasing one or two stops, to give myself a choice of best shadow detail and suitability for printing
