I've started using a Voightlander Vitomatic IIa and I'm really enjoying it.
I notice that the shutter is behind the lens. My several other rangefinders have between lens shutters.
Does the shutter location matter?
I'd guess that between the lens shutters can be made smaller, therefore maybe faster.
Does shutter location have any effect on the image the camera makes?

I don't think there's any image quality difference. Leaf shutter cameras usually put the shutter in the lens because most leaf shutters also have built in aperture leaves and aperture control ring. If you put the shutter behind the lens, you still need the aperture mechanism inside the lens. Cameras with interchangeable lenses often use the behind-the-lens shutter to keep the cost of the lenses down for the customer. Lenses get expensive if you have to include a shutter in each lens the customer buys.
