Did I missed it for reply since 2024?
IPhone is way too limited by now for nothing but outdated and lousy profit attempt.
Androids/Google services, apps are free and not crappy as Apple ones.
I was with iPhones from beginning. But they have lost Apple inventor and became just status accessory.
I have switched to Android and it is where it is it just right. As phones for sending email and just working as normal computers (Windows).
And Samsung for example cameras, sensors are not as over contrasty and crappy in terms of real IQ as on iPhones.
Anyway.
IPhone or Android are not cameras. Nether going to be.
If you want it simple and for stills get full frame DSLR.
But for video, I must admit, even IPhones are better than any cameras.
BTW, many Androids could be small or Apple.

Nikon Nomad
The OP wrote he wants a small camera for street photography and travel snaps.
Maybe go retro, and save a truckload of $$$. Get a Nikon D90 or if you want/need more resolution, a Nikon D7000-7100-7200.
I bought a D90 new in 2010 and we still use it. Last week a friend gifted me another D90 with 16,000 'clicks' on its odometer. Both have the 18-55 kit lens which makes pleasingly good images. When I take a '90 out I use mostly a Nikon D 24/2.8 or 28/2.8 on it.
Those oldies do everything I need or want. Earlier this year I sold a few stock images taken with my '90, so it's good enough for just about everything.
If I ever find a 7100 or 7200 with low mileage and at a sensible price, sure as anything I'll buy it.
My iPhone has a just okay camera. I use it now and then for cat snaps or to sneak photos when I'm in a place where no cameras are allowed. My SO has a Samsung with a camera that outperforms anything I've seen from an iPhone. So there is choice aplenty out there.
