I think Northpole did in post 91.

What did he get in the end ?

Depending on how much of he above relates to me, err, well, I fear that I am not best placed to answer th question - having acquired 35mm Biogon, Hexanon and Summicron asph chrome. The hexanon came with a Hexar body & 36. 50 & 90mm lenses! Only just received it and the quality looks great.

Good luck

Peter

From what I've read here the Biogon is a great lens to have/use. And from what I've read here the Summicron is a great lens to have/use.

Heh heh, but the Biogon has one more vote, so that's that......for now.

Who's going to audit this for shill bidders?

Very nice shots carl. I really like the first one.

I just ordered a 35 asph today. It's been a tough decision for me, but I finally decided to stick with Leica. Both lenses produce superior images in my book. My decision boiled down to the fact that no matter what, I'd end up wanting the Leica someday anyway, so why not just get it to begin with. My other 2 lenses so far are 50 sumicron, and 90 elmarit.

Happy shooting,
John

Well, belay that. The place I ordered from was actually out. So I went to popflash even though I'd have to pay sales tax. Well, that wasn't really working for me either. No AMEX unless I wanted to pay more, shopping cart not working right, etc.

I'll wait until B&H get them back in.

John...

I chose the cron because I got a good deal on one, and I liked the look of pictures I had seen taken by it

Oh, how ridiculous. You mention nothing of bokeh, MTF, micro-resolution or coma, not to mention lens 'character'. without doing side by side test with a Biogon against a USAF target how do you know that when making an incredible print that is adored the world over that it has not been comparatively ruined by virtue of not using the other lens? Oh, posts like this...

I have a Biogon and that makes prints which I find very pleasing, so clearly you are misguided about the asph. We can't both be right and I researched glass types before settling on mine - did you? Hmm? The silicon came from a part of Mongolia well known as the focal point of magnetic fields involved in the distortion of electron orbits within the Silicon deposited there. This clearly improves the character of the glass when shot of f2.8 due to subtle diffusive effects (which at f2 are less visible due to other optical deficiencies), which the asph lacks. A point I should make is that you only get this special glass if you buy Biogons between the serial numbers of 1033478 and 1033478 i.e Mine is the best and I would not trade it in even for an end to all humam suffering in this world (until I trade it in for a magic bullet next week).

What camera does the asph fit on?

Fully agreed!
Best regards,

My vote is for the Biogon, only for the less price. In fact, i prefer the Summaron 35 mm f/ 2,8 or the first Summicron 35 mm f/ 2, with 8 elements. They are very sharp but also very gentle for the bokeh, with a wonderful plasticity. The modern razor sharp 35 mm brutally cut out the subject from the background (Biogon, Summicron ASPH, Summarit, Ultron).
Ciao.

At long last I picked up a mint chrome summicron this morning - this will allow me to form my own opinion by pitting it against my biogon. For quality of feel, I don't think anything comes close to the chrome versions even if they are a bit podgy on the weight front. As far as optics are concerned, I'll check here of course to make sure I form the correct conclusions!!

for the record (for member amusement), i have tried to dispossess Carl of his classified-listed biogon. it's not working. go figure :)

hmmm

hmmm

maybe the biogon is as good as the asph here, but this picture pales in comparison to the noct photos of the same subject, iMHO.

the biogon is the best,...hope you still have it;)

carl, you have the ultimate 35 combination! Man, with a L 50/1,4 asph and your 75 and the lux 35 asph, all you need for the ultimate RF kit is a ZM 25 :)

Ironically I think I liked the Biogon more...

They're both very good lenses that render very differently.
I want that noct back though...

Edit:Actually I'm not sure which one I like more...

I have a ZM 25 (coded and brings up the 24/35 frame lines) and can hardly call this lens ultimate. It is tested for near and infinity focusing.

I like the way my ASPH feels in my hand whilst using it. Its a chrome/brass one, heavy focus and aperture are very easy to control with one finger only, so it makes for a very fast lens to use when I actually do put the camera to my eye.
These aspects, of course, have nothing to do with the optical appearance of the lens which is why one buys a lens in the first place, however I paid the same as a Biogon for it and am very happy with it.
