Daido Moriyama: the photographer who didn't look through the viewfinder

Yes and no! Using wide angle lens, viewfinder can be ignored! He shoots many images. Many!
Do I like his work? Some. I read about Daido, after a friend said I shot/exposed like him.
Yes! I shoot negative space. I do many things Japanese style! I am most definitely Not Japanese.
I admire many Japanese photographers. I won 3b prize in Japan Expo!

Moriyama did an interview a couple years back that was fairly interesting (make sure to turn subtitles on).

The documentary Stray Dog of Tokyo was on YouTube, but I think it has been taken down. Here is another, though.

I have such a liking for his work and methods, even though my work looks nothing like his. His book, Memories of a Dog, is one of my favourites. It's a series of essays he wrote for a Japanese photography magazine, illustrated with his photographs and discussing his methods and philosophy. He talks about returning to places he once inhabited and capturing them again, a sort of retroactive memory. I must get back to that book.
