Who prefers Leica MP over M6 and why?

I prefer the MP due to the better top and bottom cover (chrome brass, as the M3/M2/M4/M5 cameras), and to the better finder. In the MP the finder is build as the finder of the M4 and is more flare resistant in respect to the M6 finder (build as the same component of the M4-2). In any case, the Leica M6 remain a very good camera.
Ciao.

My first serie M4-P finder let see no difference with the finder of my M4!

Summary: When you want buy a 'cheap' MP buy a M4-P or a M 4 :)

The M6 being the bottom of the line? are you kidding me?

Have you forgotten about the M5 and the M8?

Some people are crazy!

Not as crazy as I expected!

God only knows where my posts went...

Am I in the Soviet Union?

Aha I knew it. Just a matter of time. :D Why all the deletions AGAIN??

And still no mention of why from those deleters. I do wish we had some placemarker with a "Post deleted by X" that was an honest accounting of who deleted it.

How 'bout I publish an article on this effect in a major tabloid?

Who's for?

Ahem, the M5 is hardly bottom of the line. It's as well built as any M. Its RF patch does not flare. It doesn't suffer from cracked zinc or odd powdery corrosion.

Bottom of the line, please.

Some people are crazy!

No, they're just morons who write stupid things and don't subject those stupid writings to a bit of sober second thought.

The M5 is better than some in fact. :D

But this isn't about why the M5 is better than the M6, it's about why the MP is better than the M6. Have we answered your question Prosaic? And showed why the word "prefer" in any thread title is a sure call to battle, full of vitriol and deleted posts?

I had the MP a few years ago and sold it. I didn't like the film rewind knob and I didn't like the shutter speed dial. To small. Besides, it turns the wrong way.;) I just love my M6TTL LHSA.

It always amuses me how we debate ad nauseum about which Leica is the best. ALL Leicas are the best. P.S. The M6ttl is the bestest because I own one.

given the choice between the M6 and the MP, i'd take the MP... the choice between the M7 and the MP would be a slightly tougher one.

the m5 had improvement over the m4 (aside from the obvious additional bulk)... but just wasn't very well received by M-users.

Dear Joop, in the 1977, when appeared the M4-2, the Leitz company was need to reduce the very high building cost of the previous M4 and M5 cameras. The cost cutting involved the elimination of the self timer, the use of the stainless steel to replace the chrome brass for the top and bottom cover and the redesign of the finder, in respect to the previous M4/M5: was eliminated an optical glass element, while another glass element was replaced by an acrilyc element. In practical therms, the functionality remain the same, but this finder was more prone to the flare, always in respect to the previous Leica M cameras.
The M4-2 finder type was used, also, in the M4-P, all the M6 models and the first series of the M7.
In the MP is back the chrome brass for the top and bottom cover and the finder is again with the same number of the elements as M4/M5 (all in optical glass). This new finder was mountend also in the M7 cameras, from the 2885 matriculation number.

Ciao.

With what options- to make it more perfect. (english usage noted) ?

for me, .58x viewfinder without the 75 and 90mm framelines (not sure if they'll mask the latter), black chrome, m7 style lens release button and frameline preview, rewind, and advance levers (not sure they'll do this), black hot shoe, no engravings, black saddle leather.

$5460. oh dear.
