Let's all laugh at Pentax

I quite like the look of it and the dog and cat face recognition is a boon to all new camera testers. No, I won't be buying one.

The white one is sort of passable, it's the black one with typical compact zoom lens styling that got me. Oh well, at least we'll get some entertaining articles how the camera discriminates against certain dog breeds :)

All you barstools who raved about the E-P1's wonderful retro styling? This is all your fault. Oh yes it is. Were it not for people like you, this idea would have been treated with the scorn it so richly deserves.

The black one reminds me of the old Pentax Auto 110.

I believe that's pretty much the idea. I wonder how much use it is to make a compact camera (coz that's what it is, point-and-shoot with no manual controls) styled after an SLR? I mean, it's not even a 4/3 type camera, not even a prosumer. If I was buying a basic compact I'd want something that easily slips into my pocket and not sacrifice the size for the bulky looks. If it surved a purpose, sure.
But what do I know, I feel like I'm growing more and more out of touch with the sentiments that drive the potential market for such a camera. And then I'll forget all about it in about 30mins.

If only they had made that new camera with interchangeable lenses compatible with the old Auto 110 lenses -- I could sell a boat load of those old lenses I have that now are virtually worthless.

I was just thinking the same thing. I had an Auto 110 - only with the one lens, I forget the focal length. But I took it everywhere back in the day. I was in the military, it fit easily into a pocket and handled rough treatment for many years. It would be very cool to see a really compact camera (I mean really small) that had interchangeable lenses. If it took the old Auto 110 lenses, even cooler.

Just you wait... it's only a matter of time before Agfa puts out a digital Clack... Argus comes in with a digital C3 Brick... and Kodak rises like a phoenix bringing out the digital Brownie box camera.... no LCD... nothing but a big button on top and two little 1" EVF's on the top and side where the waist level finders used to be....

come to think of it... I'd buy one of those... there'd be enough room left over to put a little 2"X3" printer inside that could spit out wallet photos :)

you heard it here first... I just saved Kodak ;P

Retro styling... Hmm. Now that almost every decade past has been recycled, including the post crash thirties, there's just one left to mirror ourselves into. And yes, there were lots of Leicas involved as well ...

Pentax's problem is that they don't presently understand what was actually great about their old products. Or rather, they didn't for a while...I do think the K-7 is excellent, the closest thing to a digital LX...one thing I like about Olympus is that their digital Pen REALLY IS a digital Pen--same concept, similar look, serving the same purpose, for a new era. That Pentax camera is kinda cool but they just don't have the balls to actually make a digital 110--they're just kind of referring to it.

Indeed, the only digital you can really use actual 110 lenses on is...the E-P1. (And the other m4/3 cameras of course.)

At last! There is a competitor to the Minox M3. I was getting worried that was going to take over the market for redo vintage point and shoot cameras.

It looks like half an idea, which is sort of like designing a bridge that is both beautiful and incredibly functional, but halfway through the building process someone says they have to kneecap function in order to stay on-budget. The result is something that's pretty to look at from a distance, but not the most fun to walk or drive over.

Talk about a missed opportunity.
