Let's all laugh at Pentax

I have a Pentax Auto 110 Kit.

Too bad this does not use the 110's Interchangeable mount. I have the wide, normal, and telephoto for it.

I guess the 110's Motor Drive is not required.

Or a version for Frank Petronio with 'breast recognition!'

:D

I don't mind it... it's $300 consumer camera... looks nicer than most of them.

My friend's 20 year-old daughter saw the white one and said, "Awesome! That is sooo cool!" So there's your market.

Basically, it's ugly because there's no function following form. It just looks nice, but we've seen that before a zillion times...

I like the looks of it anyway, If the styling is appealing, then perhaps introducing something similar with more of the functionality of the originals will help boost the market.

Besides, if it's a hit for Pentax that should be a good thing - if selling a bunch of these gets us more K7s or a m4/3 type of camera that's a good thing.

Do the calculations.

Walk around with an M3 hanging around around your neck and you're only going to attract people who are as obsessed with odd looking old cameras as you are.

Try hanging the white Pentax around your neck ... as Ted White has pointed out this camera attracts twenty year old females!

I quite like the look of it!

Me too, actually. I think it's kinda smart. If you look down the rows of digicams there's little to differentiate them. Styling, not a bad way to stand out from the crowd. Does the same thing, same specs, but it looks "cooler". Cars, cameras been doing that for years.

Ditto.....DAMN....Now what I am to do....Those lenses are pretty sharp too. it's cheaper to shoot and pay for the "develop only" in 35mm than 110 now a days.

Clearly, you should've been at the RFF get-together here, where you would have seen quite another story unfold, and quite boldy, at that. :D

Hoo-boy...aren't we in enough hot water as it is? ;)

Edit: I'm put in mind of a throwaway line from Dean Martin: "If you've seen one, you've seen 'em both."

And this is a bad thing ? :D

I like the look. I did not read the specs at all so I cannot comment further. As far as a market with 20yr olds, isn't that market saturated with cellphones? I'd hate to be trying to market any small digi these days.

If they'd styled it like a little M3, it would attract middle aged guys.

Horses for courses. I kind of like it.

Pentax's problem is that they don't presently understand what was actually great about their old products. Or rather, they didn't for a while...I do think the K-7 is excellent, the closest thing to a digital LX...one thing I like about Olympus is that their digital Pen REALLY IS a digital Pen--same concept, similar look, serving the same purpose, for a new era. That Pentax camera is kinda cool but they just don't have the balls to actually make a digital 110--they're just kind of referring to it.

Exactly!

If they were to make this their version of Samsung NX, then it would be much more substantial. But then again there's no way they can make it even remotely close to the actual auto-110 size, which I assume this one is.
