First Results: Test of Fifteen 50mm Lenses

I pretty much tried to buy 50mm lenses that did well here. The (inexpensive) J-8 and J-3 are still a bargain.

Raid,

You are to be congratulated for your hard work. For me you have proved two points: (1) vintage 50mm lenses are not the limiting factor in taking good photographs; and (2) the longer you use your children as targets for photo tests the more bored they get - mine are now in their 20s and just glower at me.

Thanks. It was a very important project for me, and I am happy at the outcome. The crtics will say that such comparisons are meaningless, but when many people do not think so, then such comparisons have value in the end.

not meaningless at all. one of the reasons i bought a 40mm summicron was because of how much i liked the look in your 40mm compare.

They have a lot of meaning, raid!

Lots of us appreciate others' efforts and sharing! Yours tend to be huge and generous: that's cool!

One test I'd really like to see one day: a direct comparison between the current 35 lux with floating elements and the 35 1.2, including close focus and wide open shooting with near, middle distance, and distant backgrounds... I'd love to see real prints: a dream that's hard to come true...

Cheers,

Juan

Juan,
In the 35mm-40mm lens comparisons, I had a CV 35/1.2 included, but I cannot recall using the 35mm Lux at the time. Come to think of it, I may have had a direct comparison between these two lenses.
