This is a highly desirable lens usable on any Leica M (that I know of) - I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I found one at reasonable price! It is prized by collectors, and a damn good lens too. The only lens more desirable in this category is the Googled Summilux 35/1.4 - quite uncommon however.
 
I love this lens and liked the way it looked so much that I bought it before ever owning a Leica camera (my then wife listed the fact that I spent so much on this lens as one of her reasons for wanting a divorce....not the only reason but since this purchase was over twenty years ago I would be embarrassed to tell you how little I paid for it) works great, can't ever recall a flare problem serious enough to cause me any concern. I shot it extensively on my M3 but now that I have acquired glasses I like the extra eye relief on my M4-P. Kind of like what I would expect shooting with a M6 with a .58 viewfinder would be like for a fraction of the price.

Still love the way it looks and in case you are interested the new Mrs. Mish says I am never allowed to sell it.
 
LOL, I was in your shoes a few days ago, and I bought it! It's an amazing lens, and the goggles are nice. :)

The first two shots were at wide open and the BW was stopped down to F4.

I had a choice of two different but almost identical lenses before I made the purcase. The Goggled Summicron, or the Goggled Summaron.

I opted for the Summicron because I like to have that extra stop if I need. And besides, the size phyiscally is exactly the same! I thought the cron would've been a little larger or heavier. The only difference was the size of the glass in the lens. (That was visible to me).
 
Had a chance to do it, once. When I went to try it out, my experience was that the finder got darker -- perhaps not a lot, but noticeably. Surprised no one has mentioned that and I can't doublecheck. Maybe it wasn't darker, maybe it was flarey -- harder to use in any case, compared to an unadorned M3 finder.

It doesn't get darker, but it gets less contrasty IMHO. Well to me it's not really harder to use, it just takes a little getting used to. :)

But yes, in a sense, it may be harder for some people. But to me, it's just different.
 
I have Summicron and Summaron (2.8) with goggles to use on my M3 and M2 too. Remarkable that on my M2 the view through the finder with either lens has less distortion toward the edges than what it has on the M3.. Further, I love to use the goggled version on the M2 since I wear eyeglasses; more convenient with the 50mm frame lines.. If you find the goggled version of the Summicron or Summaron with a good price, then do not hesitate..

"Summicron" is one of my daughter's favorite words. And one of my favorite lenses of all time. It really is worthy of the hype. I have the goggled version (as you know, Kosta ;) ) and I really didn't find the goggle annoying. A shade (1/3 EV maybe) darker to look through. I never noticed flare, but I'm just not that picky about gear that works, as long as the gear doesn't get in my way, I don't really pay attention to it. Goggled 'cron (and Summaron, I've had one of those) don't get in my way.

I do hope you get one, I think you'll really like the lens.
 
No. I have a DR Summicron with goggles and very rarely use them. I waited until I found a suitable non-goggled v.1. Terrific lens.
 
I see someone has posted a shot with the lens on an M9. How is it that Summicron DR with goggles don't fit M6TTL and newer bodies while the goggled 35mm Summicron does?
 
You are confusing the close-up attachment on a DR Summicron with "built-in" optical goggles. The DR Summicron will not close-focus on an M6TTL or M9. It is not the same as a 35mm Summicron with goggles.

I sold the M2 version, and I kept the V2 goggled lens. Optically, they are identical.
 
Forgive the stupid question, but do the googles not come off?

If your M has 35mm framelines, why would you keep the goggles on?

Without the goggles, the lens will not focus correctly. This has always been the obvious question to ask.
