Oh My Goodness (digital OM)

Being a lifelong Zuikoholic, I just placed an order for the E-M5 with 12-50mm (black) with next day shipping from Olympus. Something from above ordered me to place the order. :D

I had very high hope when Olympus E-1 came out years ago, unfortunately they never delivered. So will I put the money where digital cameras go, OM-D is not a smart bet.

Yup, preordered. I eventually cancelled my NEX-7 preorder, but I bet I don't cancel this one. This is the m4/3 camera I've been waiting for! Super fast, weather sealed, EVF, doesn't look like a teletubby. Bring it!

Oh crap... they REALLY nailed this thing... My x100 is feeling a little frightened right now. Tempted to get one and compare it with the x100. As I said earlier, the pana 14mm 2.5 and 20mm 1.7 on this body would be an absolutely cracking pair...

From one of the videos, it has the same level of weatherproofing as the E-5. So in other words it's very near waterproof.

Were the dimensions stated somewhere? How does it compare to an OM-single digit? My only question is if it is too small.

John: Can I come down and watch you unbox it? Please??? Pretty please???!!!

4th page of the www.dpreview.com preview - right down the bottom, you can compare it to the om4. It's roughly the same size, maybe a tiny bit smaller. Keep in mind it also has the grip and battery pack if you want to make it a little more sizable.

Definitely not deciding between this and a X Pro 1 until I can get my hands on both and see results from them. It's a great time for mirrorless systems.

Trius,
You can see it side-by-side with OM-4 in the dpreview.com preview of the camera. Also there's a video at the end of that, showing a real human holding the camera. :)

I almost regret pre-ordering the X-Pro1. Maybe not.

And with te 75mm 1.8 and 60mm 2.8 Macro 1:1 the announce, it become a real serious contender.

We'll see. My E-P1 annoys me with the lack of viewfinder.

I've been so pleased with my X100 and X10 that as soon as I could, I pre-ordered an X-Pro1, the 3 lenses, and a spare battery, at Henrys in Toronto. I was only #11 on their waiting list.

But by yesterday, I had seen enough of the E-M5 to convince me it would suit my needs at 1/3 the price. Anyway, I've always preferred SLRs (I have several Exaktas, a Praktica 6x6, and 2 worn OMs). And the OM-D can use my old E-PL2's lenses, adapters, etc. - even my VF2 viewfinder if I want (unlikely but technically possible). So I phoned Henrys this morning and cancelled the X-Pro1 even before today's announcement.

Now that dealers like B&H, Adorama and Amazon are taking orders, I'll call Henrys tomorrow and pre-order an E-M5 + 12-50mm lens. A black one.

I still want an X-Pro1 someday, but for now I'm saving enough to pay for this new Oly pro-style camera and a 3 week Summer trip to Southeast Asia, a dream vacation my wife has been pushing for.

For once, common sense has trumped my newer-better-gotta-have-it gear lust. It hasn't done my marriage any harm either. :D

Thought about it as a E-P1 replacement.

But I was so disappointed with the GXR EVF that I'm not going to buy an EVF camera without first seeing it hands on first and with being Olympus widely stocked that won' t be too difficult.

Wow. I was skeptical, but this is one of the few cameras I'm actually excited for in a long time. I used to own a Oly C-8080WZ digital camera--this looks like the proper successor to it!
