OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

New toy (the body).

I love the look of the braising on this camera, it certainly adds a nice character.
Thanks. I like it too. Wish I was responsible for it. :p The bodies I've owned for 25+ years don't have as much wear as the one I just bought. Odd considering I tend to be tough on my tools. :D

First roll through the OM-2s. Looks like the meter is good (at least in the ballpark).

OM 50mm f1.8 around f2.8 with a Vivitar 12mm extension tube. I did sharpen a bit as I was using a monopod and I wasn't that steady.

I don't think it will work because you have disabled downloading of your images from flickr.

Okay, y'all...I am eyeing up an OM-2s, despite the fact that I am happy with my M6 and M3. With everything I keep hearing about the OM system, I'm intrigued.

However, how is it comparable to my Pentax ME Super in terms of size and ergonomics? I quite like the Pentax, and I'm not sure if the OM-2s is such an upgrade. Convince me!

Also, for a first lens, what do you recommend?

Finally, I am looking at a 50--as that is my go-to focal length--and is the 50/1.2 better than the 50/1.4 by ~$500? KEH has an EX+ 50/1.2 for $665 and an EX 50/1.4 for just over $100. Is the 1.2 that good? I've never shot with anything faster than 1.4 on any system!

Thanks in advance RFFers!

As much as I love my 50/1.4 OMZ, I'd say go for the 50/1.8 for starters.

It's a really under-rated lens - and a really good one!

BTW - all the talk previously about the 85/2 - yeh, great lens,

but don't pass up the opportunity to try a 100/2.8 - one of my faves.

Well compared to the pentax - their size is about the same, but ....

The om has really big viewfinder - comparable with nikon f
The shutter noise, vibration is really low. Actually i think it has one of the best shutters put into slr
About the lens - get the 50/ 1.4 and never look back :)

Those are wonderful images, your models are full of interest and great subjects, no favourite as I really like them all.

Thank you for sharing them.

I've never used a 50/1.2, and can't comment about relative value. But if I had the choice and money was not a big issue, I would not hesitate to get it over the 50/1.4. Images I've seen convince me it's a great lens.

As for the 1.4 vs 1.8, there is no contest in my mind -- 50/1.4. The extra stop is worth it without sacrificing anything compared to the 50/1.8. The latest version 50/1.8 miJ is superb, and if absolute size is a consideration, then I choose it over the 50/1.4. Not that the 50/1.4 is big by any means, but the 50/1.8 is very compact.

Now that I think about it ... get one of each. You have to work at being a Zuikoholic!

It's a great lens but it does detract from the minimalist feel of an OM .... it's kinda large and heavy!

Hehe... I must be a Zuikoholic I actually have one of each of these here.

The difference between f 1.8 and f 1.4 is one half stop, not a full stop, likewise for the difference between f 1.4 and f 1.2.

It is a full stop from f 1.8 to f 1.2.

I have an OM 50/1.4 and an OM 50/1.8, while the 1.4 is larger, the size difference is not even remotely a factor. I prefer the 50/1.4 not only for its additional half-stop of speed but also for its rendering wide open which is very, very appealing to me.

I think the earlier less desirable (supposedly) version of the f1.4 is a great lens for black and white.

I'll second that. As much as I'd like an 85/2 it's just never fit my budget. Or, to tell the truth, the opportunity has never presented itself when I've had the money.

The 100/2.8 is much more affordable and it's a great lens. Some of my best portraits have come from that lens and I don't think I'd sell mine to get an 85.

As far as the 50/1.8 versus 50/1.4 goes, I have no doubt that the 1.8 is under-rated, but I still think the extra speed of the 1.4 is a great value considering the price difference, all other things being equal.

Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate, or regret, using a 50/1.8 if I still had one, but I've been using the 1.4 as my main lens for several years now.
