Just thought I'd pass along this video link. It's the most updated I've seen about Daido Moriyama, previously a Ricoh GR1 and GR21/Tri-X shooter.

He's shooting a digital compact now, and it appears to be a model with a zoom (heresy:eek: ).

As he and an assistant edit digitally, he's post-processing in SilverEfex Pro.

I saw this video as well. Watching it, I wondered how he prints these digital files. I know that Moriyama used to print his own B&W silver prints. I wonder if he's satistied with inkjet prints of his B&W images?

I'd imagine they're at least easier to duplicate perfectly. Maybe that would affect the "collectibility" of his prints in the art market..?

Nice to see a master of his genre at 73 years old unafraid to modernize his working methods, regardless of whether digital or film is a personal preference of mine.

I agree. The guy is just completely 'into it'. I appreciate how he trusts his intuition/gut reaction to street stuff and then edits like crazy later. Very inspirational.

Great link. Makes sense- he is a prolific shooter!

I saw the exhibit of him and Klein- was very good. Makes me laugh when you here people say you can't make awesomely huge prints from 35mm!

The video brought his philosophy and work style right out in the open, to be easily viewed and appreciated.

What fascinated me the most was that he identified himself with the street dog he had photographed, and said that he would not mind being compared to that dog. (The dog had an expression of, "I'm out here surviving, don't mess with me.") In part of the video, Daido sat next to a sculpture that looked like a sculpture of that dog. Is that his muse?

Oh jeez, will this Nikon now be the fanboy's camera of choice? ;) I've seen a few japanese guys with GR1 and Pen-W cameras floating around NYC.

I always love watching Daido do his thing. His words hang in my mind after watching every time. Doesn't matter what camera he uses....
