I've been wanting a 50mm lens for my SP 2005. Since I have a 50mm f/1.5 Sonnar for my Contax IIa I've put off getting one.
Last week I got a black 5 cm f/1.4 Nikkor-S from Robert's Camera. Serial number is 404717.
Can anyone date this lens? Thanks!

Rotoloni doesn't give hard dates but the lens was introduced in 1952 and produced for about 10 years. The highest recorded serial # per his book is 417884. So yours is in the latter half of the black-barrel run of around 45,000 lenses, so likely it was made in the late 1950s or early 60s.

All of the chrome and black lenses are great! Have fun with yours.

Thanks!
It looks good but might need a cleaning. Who is cleaning these lenses today in the USA?
My first roll with it is 1/2 way done. Fun so far!

I emailed Don Goldberg about a Leicavit that needs a CLA and asked him if he services Nikon S rangefinder lenses and he does. If my 50mm needs cleaning I'll send it to him.

Don most recently cleaned my 35mm F1.8 Nikkor rangefinder lens in the "S" mount. He has done my Nikkor 50mm F2 in LTM as well as an AIS lens or two as far as the Nikon stuff is concerned. Doesn't hurt to ask him.
