Following on from my recent post regarding the barrel distortion of the Nikkor 50 f2, i'm now looking for a distortion free 50 for my F. Any suggestions much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

If 55mm are within range, the Micro Nikkor will do (the - period - 3.5 is only distortion free close-up and has slight distortion at infinity, the later 2.8 AI-S does away with that)...

I've heard that the 50mm f/1.8 is without distortion. Can someone confirm that?

Agree with the 55 . Never used a 2.8
Ken Rockwell has lots of lens review and distortion is reported.
He reports on the D version of almost none. To add mine was bothersome to get accurate AF. Close but changed for close to far and had focus shift. I could see it now that I have a A screen in my F2(split image).
Focus is dead on at 2 & falls off to 5.6. Cure is move the top of the split off to the right a hair for 4 and a touch more for 5.6. You can not see this with a digital screen until you put the file up on your computer.
Mine was used for $50 so may be atypical.
