I need to somehow get a loaner SL for a week. Then I can try it out thoroughly, and then I can decide much better if I want the SL or the M10. Of course, it makes more sense then to also get a one week loaner M10 to try out! My dreams never end.

Since the SL is about to be phased-out...one of your main concerns would include the sticker price of the current SL + M-mount adapter. Check around. Good luck, Peter

I know of one person who has bought a beautiful looking [used] SL with M adapter for $3500. He may have been lucky to get such a set-up for such a cost.

I'm pretty sure if you stopped by a Leica Store you could borrow a SL for a few hours for free. Leica does this at Photoville where basically someone can try a M10 for two or so hours leaving a photo ID and a credit card.

Also realize that a while back Leica was offering "free" M-adapters with the purchase of a CL.
Used M-adapters to L-mount should be plentiful.

Is it really necessary to buy the Leica M adapter (say), and pay $500? How about the cost of your SL adapters?

It is if you want to unlock the full set of feature compatibility of M lenses with the SL. I bought a non Leica M-L adapter and found that the camera could not set lens profiles, could not magnify the image in the VF etc etc
I would buy the genuine Leica adapter used. They are then discounted up to 50% off.

Your picture doesn't look anything like the leaked photos. Is the thumbnail just your imagination or based on facts?
The design of the "leaked" images is ruined in my opinion by the protruding hot shoe. Other than that, I love the boxy industrial design, just like the good old Leicaflex.

Raid, I would recommend buying the Leica brand adapter. I have a handful of off-brand adapters for my SL and the quality is lacking in comparison. Also, the electronic functions are non-existent with off-brand adapters.
If you're on the fence about buying an SL, I can highly recommend buying one. I got mine a few months ago after sending in an M9 for sensor repair. It was a difficult transition, I've not focused an SLR style camera in decades, but it has been worth it. I am very happy with the prints I've made from this camera. The functions of the camera become second nature pretty quickly. The size was a big turn-off to me at first, but I've adapted to it.
For me the biggest benefit of this camera has been being able to use just about any lens without dealing with rangefinder coupling. I have adapters for Nikon, Olympus and Canon lenses and they work great. The 7Artisan lenses are particularly easy to use on the SL as you don't have to spend a Saturday evening adjusting the focus!
In short, if you're used to RFs, there is a learning curve with the SL, but it is not as daunting as I thought it would be. My M9 still gets used, but it is definitely being used a lot less these days.

If I get an SL, I will get a Leica adapter for the zum lenses. I may get off brand adapters for non Leica lenses. I have many lenses.

The focusing is very easy with the EVF, and I have some excellent lenses in several camera mounts, so it is worth it.

I own the Leica M-L and Leica R-M adapters. For me stacking adapters allows the most flexibility.
I also own a Novaflex Nikon F-mount to "M" adapter that I use with my Noct-Nikkor where I'm able to utilize the Noctilux F1.2 Profile. Both the Noctilux F1.2 and Noct-Nikkor (58/1.2) have hand ground ASPH lenses so the Noctilux profile works rather well.
I would not call the Novaflex adapter a cheap adapter. It is very well made.
The great thing about the Leica adapters is how transparent they work. 6-Bit codes are read, and the camera even remembers the last lens mounted if not 6-bit coded.
To me the Leica lens profiles are a big thing.

At Photoville Sunday I went to the Leica booth and borrowed an APO 35 Cron-L from my friend John Kreider the Leica Technical Specialist for the Leica "S" and SL.
The Jono Slack review of how APO provides enhanced sharpness and pop is no lie. What a lens.
The rendering has mucho depth and the OOF is also displays a great smoothness. In my files there is a lot of depth so that the images look like scultptures.
Had a two hour envelope to play around, using a credit card and a photo I.D. for collateral.
