The cost of Leica R lenses is what kept me from buying Leica R cameras for decades ... I just could not justify their price. When the prices dropped precipitously after the R system was discontinued, I bought a bunch of old and new R lenses and a couple of R bodies: they really were/are superb! Worth their new prices ...? eh, I dunno. But superb. Then the market prices went up again because of the SL and its follow-ons, and the cine market. Now everything is more expensive than I ever paid...
It is what it is. The Contax/Yashica Zeiss lenses are great too, and have a slightly different look. Even the old Nikkor pre-AI and AI series lenses are darn good. You pays your money and enjoy what you get...
