Baltimore Street Photog Gets World Wide News Coverage

Good for him...hope he stays safe.

Can't trust police anymore.

This guy was working for the press.

A cop beat the **** out of him with his nightstick for taking photos. He suffered permanent nerve damage. When he was on the ground a cop told him..."Sorry I thought you were a ******."

OK that was back in the 60's. But know what...2015...you can still get killed for just pressing the button.

I only shoot with supewides...I'd get killed quick in the war zone.

Can a amateur street photog make a difference ?

Yes.

Does not matter at all. Photographs do not care who presses the button.

These were taken by NAZI's. How important are they as a witness to history? The camera did not require a pure heart of the camera operator for them to be priceless.

Some shots in this series that look like they could become iconic of this situation locally and nationally. I bet the local newspaper is kicking itself for turning him down.

That's great stuff, good for him, especially if he wants to make a career out of PJ work which is still out there.

I had a similar thing happen at age 17 in terms of access and behind the scenes knowledge during a news event that essentially launched my career, been getting paid ever since.

The second image in the link is on the cover of Time magazine

"“For me, who’s from Baltimore city, to be on the cover of TIME Magazine, I don’t even know what to say. I’m speechless,” says Allen. “It’s amazing. It’s life changing for me. It’s inspiring me to go further. It gives me hope and it gives a lot of people around me hope. After my daughter, who’s my pride and joy, this is the best thing that’s happened to me.”

That shot is amazing.
It's also amazing that he managed to get it out so quickly, he must be able to keep his cool.

This is really nice. If he has these on film, it will make for a good record of history. Not that the situation is good though. I hope it quells soon. I come from a city with almost no social unrest, and this situation must be painful for who-ever is in the midst of it all.

Uploaded from his camera to his phone and on to social media according to the article. I'd suggest he's already made a good record of history, particularly now he's got the front page of Time.

Good luck to him.

... the runner works better graphically, the title and text work perfectly

Much easier for the designer ... I recall that cover shot of the man standing in front of the tank, that one didn't lend itself at all to the layout but was too good not to use

I did not follow the situation in Baltimore till I pounced upon this thread highlighting Devin Allen's work. In an article (source: www.channelnewsasia.com)of today's news, this article brings more complications to the situation, and so many lives are involved in a story that will have implications to the fabric of society that has various religions and race.

I wish you well Baltimore.
