Captain Jack's Exakta Website?

Anyone know what may have happened to Captain Jack's fabulous Exakta Website? It was one of my favorite information pieces on the internet, with cameras and lenses not many could duplicate these days.

What comes up under the link is not very complete or even interesting. I will assume the domain name was purchased but I truly don't know why as this site is a serious imposter?

I also found and bookmarked this part of the archive recently when researching Exakta Steinheil lenses (having recently bought a couple of Exakta lenses to use with an adapter on mirrorless.) I was also considering buying the beautiful 35mm f2.8 Auto Quinaron depicted on the linked page. Shh don't tell anyone, but Exaka lenses often seem to be a bit of a bargain due to their unusual lens mount but adapters are now available cheaply. As an aside, my solution was to get an Exakta to Leica M adapter as I already had Leica M to m4/3 and Leica M to NEX adapters. Stacking allowed me to use the new lens on both systems very successfully.

edit2: except the Captain Jack stuff, most of their items: "Defective - For Parts / Repair / Decor" or "READ DESCRIPTION" or so... :rolleyes:
 
As an aside, Captain Jack Dugrew passed away awhile ago and his extensive collection was sold to Westborn Camera. A number of his items are extremely rare so the prices are right up there for a lot on the website. I know I have lusted after some of his lenses as they are never seen for sale, but now the prices are so high for many of the Exakta Mt lenses that sold for peanuts 20+ yrs ago, I can't afford them. Did just get a Kilfitt Macro Kilar 40/2.8 lens that is close to sixty years old, that looks and feels like it was made yesterday. That may be the one thing I'll ever get from his esteemed collection and if that is so, I'm very happy.

That's very very sad.

His ebay account was 'jack125', it was a real joy to communicate/trade with him. (And his shipping charges were always much much lower than the aforementioned sum.)

Rest in peace, Captain Jack Dugrew!

That kind of price for shipping from USA to Australia is pretty normal which is why I seldom buy from USA on eBay - unless there is something I really want or the seller is more reasonable shipping cost wise. But mostly my impression is that either the USPS or the sellers are greedy. And it can be particularly galling when you see something small, with a relatively inexpensive B.I.N price but the same kind of shipping and handling fee is demanded. And worse still with the US dollar so strong right now (like AUD was better than parity 3 years ago but now I need to add not much under 40% to the US $ price to make the conversion to AUD.

To make it worse, USPS is hopelessly slow. I did buy a lens from USA recently and unusually the shipping fee was "only" $25 for priority shipping with tracking. But that purchase was in the hands of US PS 3 weeks ago and so far according to the shipping tracking data the lens has been to just about every state in the Union including Hawaii where it is presently. For comparison I bought something from a village in England last year and it was shipped and arrived on my doorstep within 10 days maybe less. And it is now not unusual for purchases to arrive from China within 10 days too....and usually with shipping, handling and tracking included in the selling price.
 
If the seller only uses Ebays' shipping program it literally wanders all over the states before leaving the country , ridiculous . Peter
