I just want to praise the skill of camera repairer/expert watch repairer Cuong Dang who lives in Southern California. I bought a Carl Zeiss 50mm f2 silver Planar lens in close to mint condition for the Contarex camera on eBay. Its only problem was a completely frozen focussing mechanism. No repairer was interested in fixing this defect except for Cuong. I was almost on the verge of giving up and using this lens as an expensive paperweight. He told me that the Zeiss helicoid lubricant used in the past was faulty and many West German Zeiss lenses had developed this locked helicoid condition with the passage of time. After several anxious weeks in his care the lens made a wonderful recovery using his chemical concoction and its focussing action behaves as if it has just left the Oberkochen factory in Germany. It is a pleasure to use this vintage Zeiss optic on my Sony A9 mirrorless digital camera.
