Diane Arbus

While I am not very familiar with her work the little I have seen makes me think that there are some folks who see things the rest of us do not. And they use that funny little mechanical box to show us what we have missed. It can border on sorcery.
 
Many thanks for posting that link to the new view of the 1972 Arbus Retrospective. I was able to see the 1967 New Documents show at MOMA, and it changed the way I saw the world.
I had never seen that amazing contact sheet self-portrait made with the Contax D before. I suspect Arbus did not print it because it was misframed and poorly exposed, and she was such a perfectionist about printing, but maybe she just felt it revealed too much about herself.
