Fairfax media, publishers of the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age newspapers, have announced the creation of Clique, a new amateur Photographers Association, in partnership with Digital Camera Warehouse, Canon and Adobe. Membership ("Program Participation") costs AUD$50 for calendar 2014 and is open to amateur photographers of any age. There appears to be no citizenship or residence conditions.

The promotional banner says:
- Chance to be published in SMH and AGE
- Monthly Challenges (ten) and prizes to be won (including Canon Pro100 printers and 12 months of Adobe CC, while the overall winner's prize includes a 5DIII with 24-70 2.8L II and a one month internship with the photographic dept of the Herald or Age newspapers)
- Discounts on photographic equipment and software from partners Digital Camera Warehouse, Canon and Adobe
- Receive feedback on your images
- Access to master classes training and seminar presented by Fairfax photographer and Canon Masters
- Membership: $50p.p & $25p.p for Fairfax subscribers for the 2014 program

More details in the About page.

Overall winner gets their images published in both newspapers in December 2014. The terms and conditions state that copyright remains at all times with the photographer; however participants grant the Organiser licence to deal with participants' images for matters relating to the Program (other uses such as commercial usage do not appear to be included in this licence).

Two things strike me about this: it appears to be a genuine attempt to promote photography and not just another rights grab; and the prize of a month's internship with the newspapers suggests a continuing commitment to the photography departments in Fairfax media. Compared to what happened in Chicago, for instance.
