Hello all,

Has anyone tried the Contax G1 and color infrared film? Any luck?

Honestly... no. I only tried the phony kind, the Ilford SFX, with kinda disappointing results. But that's largely my fault, not the camera's or the film's. :(

Like Francisco, I tried Ilford SFX in my G2 with a B+W 091 filter (I think that's a dark red, or about the same as Wratten 29). I also did not get the results I had hoped for. So I got a roll of Kodak HIE, which has to be loaded in the dark. One of my fumbling fingers inside the changing bag went through the shutter. Ouch! A $235 repair job. If you're going to get into IR, be careful with loading in total darkness.

Mike,
It has been a very long time since I used Infrared Film; but I never loaded Infrared Ektachrome in total darkness. Also, flourescent lights do not emit in the IR region. At work, we have an IR sensor. Pointing into a room with Normal Office Flourescent lights, it "sees" dark. Turn on a normal incandescent bulb, bingo- lots of IR. Maybe if it is sensitive in the IR; you could try a flourescent "IR Safety lamp".
