My neighborhood....lets see yours

Metrotown, Burnaby BC

This photo is representative of the change in my neighbourhood of Metrotown in Burnaby, BC, Canada.
The two and three story walk-up rental apartments built in the 1950s-1980's are rapidly being replaced with 40-50 story skyscrapers.
Low-income elderly, new immigrant and fixed-income residents have been pushed out in favour of local owners and off-shore rentiers who can afford the near and million-dollar plus suites.

This part of my neighborhood is only a few minutes walk from my house.
I was on my way home and these three ladies were heading in the opposite direction. They looked so happy; it put a smile on my face.

Most of my photos for the last several years have been in my neighborhood. Turns out to be a pretty decent place to live and make pictures.

It's pretty quiet here:

And there are new homes for sale right now:

Forgive the craziness. Some of these photos were, indeed, taken in my neighborhood but they are not representative of it in any way. It's pretty nice here (except for the summers) and our neighborhood is close to all the things that matter to most people. Plus there are good neighbors...many good neighbors.

The suburb Hawthorn noted in the fretwork of this builder’s work on this house and a few more along a pretty street.

Further up the hill, the Italianate mansion on the corner opposite. Summaron M 28 5.6, always at 5.6.

Next street to us. The elderly couple at this house used to feed the magpies at 5. They would come to the wicker chair by the front door.

Like others around home is where I take most shots. I take most of my shots on a Sunday or around work at lunchtime. The late afternoon light, coming under the clouds at last on a Sunday late afternoon is one of the treats. Nothing stays the same. Little gems everywhere.
