It is nice to see Leica continuing to expand both the film and digital M lineups.

Do these new models mean the end of the line for the Monochrom and MP ?

Personally I still strongly believe the "Leica M" terminology instead of a traditional name like the "Leica M10" is unnecessarily confusing and reflects badly upon Leica management not fully understanding and embracing Leica's own heritage. This confusion will only get worse with more M this and more M that models.

No - as far as I see it is a special edition of 101 sets (including these two cameras and 3 Summi"luxes" (28,35,50) in a Rimowa case).

Presseinformation der Leica Camera AG: Leica Camera AG feiert „100 Jahre Leica Fotografie“ Produkthighlight im Jubiläumsjahr: Leica M Edition 100 Die Leica Camera AG feiert in diesem Jahr „100 Jahre Leica Fotografie“. Anlässlich des runden Jubiläums wurden mit der Leica S Edition 100 und der Leica D-Lux 6 Edition 100 bereits zwei Jubiläumseditionen angekündigt. Nun erscheint im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zur Eröffnung des neuen Leica Firmengebäudes im Leitz-Park Wetzlar am 23. Mai 2014 ein besonderes Highlight: die Leica M Edition 100. Als erste Leica Sonderedition vereint die Leica M Edition 100 eine analoge, rein mechanische Messsucherkamera – die Leica M-A – mit einer digitalen M (Leica M Monochrom) in einem Set. Die Kombination dieser beiden Kameras ist einzigartig. Den Anfängen der Leica Kleinbildfotografie gewidmet und damit eine besondere Hommage an die Schwarz-Weiß-Fotografie, stellt die Jubiläumsedition eine echt Besonderheit dar. Dies gilt vor allem für die hochwertige Verarbeitung: Denn erstmalig sind alle Metall-Außenteile der im Set enthaltenen Leica Kameras und Objektive aus massivem Edelstahl gefertigt. Die beiden Kameras stehen stellvertretend für den fotografischen Ursprung und die Gegenwart. Die Leica M-A, in der technischen Ausstattung basierend auf dem aktuellen analogen Leica MP Modell, steht in der Nachfolge der Ur-Leica. Foto Leica M Edition 100 Neben der exklusiven Produktzusammenstellung gehört vor allem deren hochwertige Verarbeitung zu den herausragenden Merkmalen der Leica M Edition 100. Für die sichtbaren Metallteile der Leica Produkte kommt erstmals Edelstahl zum Einsatz, der in seiner Bearbeitung sehr aufwendig ist. Zum Schutz vor Fingerabdrücken wurde dieser zusätzlich durch ein Schweizer Unternehmen mit einer speziellen Schutzschicht vergütet. Gleichermaßen widerstandsfähig wie beständig, garantiert das Material einen langen Werterhalt und verleiht den Produkten ein edles Äußeres mit seidigem Glanz. Abgerundet wird das hochwertige Erscheinungsbild beider Kameragehäuse durch ein spezielles, schwarzes Echtleder. Ergänzt wird das Set durch drei Leica Summilux-M Objektive mit 28, 35 und 50 mm Brennweite. Die Auflage der Leica M Edition 100 ist weltweit auf 101 Exemplare limitiert. Kameras und Objektive sind nicht einzeln, sondern nur im Set ab Juni 2014 in den Leica Stores und Boutiquen erhältlich.

the novelity for the "non collector" is imho the Macro Elmar M 4/90 and Macro adaptor.

(and perhaps later in the year (@ PK Cologne??) a "normal" version of the Summilux 1.4/28mm ?)
 
The Monochrom in silver - do I need another? Not really I'm afraid.

A nice set of Monochrom and reskinned MP - lovely, but probably quite expensive.

Still if it keeps em producing that's great
 
I am very interested in this new 90 Macro. I will like to see exactly how it improves on the current set. So far I have held onto my aging Canon 5d for my macro work (only lens I have left for it is macro) but if this new 90 Macro works well with the M that may spell "sell" for my remaining Canon gear.
 
There's really nothing new. The M-A is an MP without a meter and made of stainless steel (as is the M Monochrom) - available in the Leica M Edition 100 set only.

The regular M Monochrom is now available in silver.

I think the lens is still the same lens, but the adapter is new...I could be wrong, though.

FYI you can also use a macro adapter with any mirrorless camera and an M lens to achieve 1:3-1:2 macro. With some lenses (0.5m focus Zeiss ZMs) reproduction ratios close to 1:1 is possible.

The camera with the "Leitz-Park-Logo" is only available at the Leica Shop inside the Leitz Park ;)
( so you have to add the ride to Wetzlar into the price of the camera ;) )
 
Looks to be some sort of brand/marketing exercise to generate publicity and reinforce their brand image (read exclusive/expensive/desirable).
