Remote, Infrared?

I know that Contax has made some infrared releases in the past. How well do they work? Do they work with the G series?

My recollection on the Contax 139 was that it triggered the same way as the remote release, which was esentially just a short out of the triggering device from a socket at the back of the camera. If the G series works that way, it might work.
