i just found a Retina IIIc in a box of goodies from my grandfather's days or my dad's younger days. unfortunately neither is around to ask about it. but it looks clean, a bit stiff. must run a roll of film through it.

anyone have any info on it? collapsible lens cover/action 50/f2 SK lens.

The IIIc was my Dad's favorite camera. I have three that were his, along with many of the accessories for the camera. Really good quality cameras, and the Schnieder lens is tops.
There is a problem with the rack and pinion mechanism that cocks the shutter, in that it wears too quickly. There are parts available, so a repairman that knows older cameras can fix it.

Check out these sites:

http://www.cameraquest.com/ret3c.htm (this guy don't like them much!)

Here's an on-line manual. http://www.butkus.org/chinon/kodak/retina_iiic/retina_iiic.htm

Run some film through it - you should be very happy with the quality.

fantastic! thanks. the film advance winder seems stuck. i won't force it but i may have a play tosee if it can be loosened a bit. not sure if i want to go to any expense to repair it but i guess if anyone wants it i should sned it off to a real collector. i also have a Zeis Ikon TLR of my gramp's which i used at Uni in the 60s. was a great camera, still goes, i think.

The film counter might be at zero... the advance lever locks up at zero. Read one the links above-the camera quest link addresses this. It has pictures and an explanation of how to reset the film counter. It's too late in the evening for me to try and explain :)

I have two of these, they're fun but a bit complicated...

yes, got the counter back to a number other than 1 or zero so now it works. will put some film in on the weekend and see how it performs. thanks all.
