I have the original Sony E 50mm f1.8 OSS (designated SEL 50 f18, not the Zeiss 55mm or the later Sony FE cameras) which came out a few years ago for the Sony APS sized sensor cameras. It is actually a very nice lens which renders beautifully - to my eye anyway. Its rendering reminds me somewhat of a Sonnar design lens though it does not seem to be one so far as I can find out. The mystery though is that the specs state that it has 9 elements in 8 groups. But the optical design diagram on the page linked below it is a far more complex design - almost certainly a mistake on their web site.

Another page here gives a more likely looking lens design image.

Reviews say that the lens is sharpish in the centre but that sharpness drops off as one moves out from the centre. And it is not overly sharp but provides the kind of well "rounded" image so typical of that design. This is what reminds me of the Sonnar ""look" and the description of its performance is consistent with my results.

Any one know what the design pictured in the second image is?
