Hi people,
Hart House at the Univeristy of Toronto is putting on a small exhibit of street photography next month, and is soliciting entries. An entry form and information is available at http://hhcc.sa.utoronto.ca/. The contest/exhibit is open to the general population, and there are some prizes. The show itself will be small (not all entries will be shown). I'd love to see some of the great Toronto-area work that I've seen up here submitted. This event is in association with an academic conference, and is not one of these photo contest scams to get stock images (there's no transfer of copyright or any of that junk).

Patrick, interesting post. You may have seen a rigourously discussed thread here a few weeks back rekindling the debate "what is street photography"
I guess I'd like to know how Hart House defines it, hopefully they didn't check in with the RFF thread.

Patrick, I just went to the Hart House site and downloaded the PDF of "rules" Looks like anything goes if it has a street in it. Backalley will like this ... I think...

Jan: The idea of the contest/exhibit is to keep things loose, and not worry too much about categories. The event coincides with a conference on urban/street studies at the U of T, itself a very diverse area. People seemed happy with the idea of "Street photography loosely construed + we'll know it when we see it".

I'd like to enter something but I don't live in Toronto. They only give a place to drop off prints -- no mailing address.
It appears that it is open to anyone but, if so, how would a non-Toronto-ite get their print(s) into the right hands?

Hi Dave.
It would be possible for you to enter by mail, if you like. If you send the entry to Hart House Camera Club c/o Hart House at the address here: http://www.harthouse.utoronto.ca/hh/page.php?id=ABT09 it should get to us. We probably won't be able to return your entry/entries, though. And, should you win, you might have trouble redeeming the gift certificate prizes (I think we'd be able to mail those to a long-distance entrant... tell you what, I'll pony the $0.85 or whatever it is to mail a letter if Hart House can't afford it).

Thanks very much for the info. I'll get started...
If I win, I'd be perfectly happy with the prize(s) going to a school or deserving student(s).

What kind of a contest it is? I was there yesterday to submit 6 of my photos. No advertisement of any kind even nearby or inside of Hart House. The lady at the gallery where it supposed to be exhibited knows nothing about contest; the lady at Porter's Desk was not aware of photo contest as well. Kinda strange... The show itself looks as too small if any at all.
I hope to be there next Saturday and see this exhibition.
