I was wondering if anyone knows what this is? is this because i havnt cleaned the lens properly? it's the purple smudge. Can anyone advise what I should do or is this normal? The sun was shining in from the right side. The smudge went away when I blocked out the sun to the lens (even though i have a lens hood on it) Thanks

Did you take the shot through a window/glass? That might explain the flare. What lens?

Are there more photos where the smudge/artefact is the same?
Is it film or digital?
Do you see this on one camera, more than one, or several?
What does the whole frame, and if it is film, the rebate beyond the edges, look like?
I have to say, due to their conservative design parameters, the Summarits are some of the consistently best behaved M lenses, but any lens can do some odd things if provoked sufficiently.
But more information would really help.
