What is a 28mm lens good for?

I came to 28mm (or equivalent) with the GR series (GRDI, GR and GRII) and fell in love. It's now my most used lens, and my three favourite lenses are all 28mm.

Pentax LX, SMC-M 28/f2 and Portra400

Leica M2, VM 28/f2 Ultron and HP5+

Ricoh GR and GR Lens 18.3/f2.8

Compared to the 35, the 28 gives more importance to the foreground, making it important that the foreground needs to contain something of interest or importance; while the background begins to recede, becoming less important. Thus the need to move in closer to the subject. This process probably begins with the 35mm, is heightened at 28mm, and continues as we go wider and wider.

At first I thought, what a strange question. And then I noticed that the question was asked 11 years ago. I hope that he has figured out the answer to that by now. - Jim
