There's no other camera on the market quite like the X100 series. It's a modern, high spec mirrorless camera, but it's also small, has a hybrid OVF/EVF, has Fuji's well-liked film simulations, etc. There's nothing else that checks all those boxes. Other cameras with an OVF are either much more expensive (Leica, Pixii), or much bigger (X-Pro).
Part of it is "TikTok hype", but it's also just a really well done camera. The unmet demand for the X100V also means there are a couple years of people wanting but unable to buy it until now. I don't think it's any surprise that it's selling well.
(I've never owned one. My main digital camera is an X-Pro3.)
