Seems Cosina discontinued this lens in favour of the classic.

Today, Cosina will discontinue production of the Foctorender NOKTON Vintage Line 50mm F1.5 Aspherical II SC SIL VM, NOKTON Vintage Line 50mm F1.5 Aspherical II SC BLK VM, and NOKTON Vintage Line 50mm F1.5 Aspherical II SC Nickel VM. I will inform you of that. Thank you for your continued patronage since its launch in October 2020.
We look forward to your continued patronage of Cosina products.
 
I picked up a black SC version of the Voigtländer 50mm f1.5 Vintage Line Aspherical II VM lens earlier today and took it for a test spin.
I'm so glad I bought it, this lens is (in my opinion) amazing!

I'm still looking for an unhazed S mount version that I can afford. Doubt I'll find one but thankfully I have one of the original LTM ones and that's a delight on my M 240.

And, that is why I decided to buy the SC (single coated) version of this lens.

I have recently become enamored with Voigtländer's SC lenses. In the past I thought that MC (multi-coated) lenses sounded more practical, the more coats the better seemed like good thinking too me! Then I bought the Voigtländer 40mm f1.4 Nokton Classic SC VM lens on a whim (it wasn't very expensive) and I was extremely pleased with the images it produced. Then I realized that another of my favorite Voigtländer lenses (the 50mm f1.5 Heliar Classic) was also single coated. Well... now it was off to the SC races! I got the 35mm f1.4 Nokton Classic SC and the 75mm f1.9 Ultron (black paint) SC; all these lenses were producing the kind of images that I really liked. So, today I marched into the camera shop and picked up the last single-coated lens on my list, the "Voigtländer 50mm f1.5 Vintage Line Aspherical II SC VM lens".

I guess I am now a certified SC crazy! But, my goodness, I love the results I get with these lenses.

Mike - a question off topic - I wonder if the Nokton 50mm f1.1 is still in production now there is the Nokton 50mm f1. You are the Cosina specialist, maybe you know the answer to this question. Thanks!

Erik, as per this website's owner, the 50/1.1 was replaced by the 50/1.2:

The 50/1.2 was released in September of 2018. My guess is the 1.1 ceased production quite a bit before then.

I seem to remember a lot of negative or semi-negative reviews of the 1.1...which is a real shame. Clearly, it is a very capable lens.

The LTM and version 1 M-mount lens are very close, optically. I believe there was a claim of 'improved' coatings on the M version. Having never owned the LTM I can't confirm that lens element diameter isn't different, as well. Seeing as the filter diameter is 52mm on the LTM and 49mm on the version 1 M, I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if the front element diameter was different...but then again, maybe not.

As to your question, the newer VM version (version 2) is a different optical formula. Compared to my version 1 VM - the lens is very compact (43mm vs 49mm), sharper across the whole frame, has less distortion and has a nicer rendering. It is truly an improvement in every way I can imagine.

Erik, per the Voigtländer Archives website:

The Voigtländer 50mm f1.1 Nokton VM lens was releasd in June of 2009 and production stopped in November 2019.
