This thread was created in response to a comment made by Pablito (“Great work.
Sadly, treads like this never go anywhere on RFF
”) in an inspiring post/link, made by Wcarpenter.
http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=95244

The content should reflect published/unpublished photos or photojournalistic collections (stories) we want to share. Museum shows, collections, and single photos are welcome.

Update 10-29-2010:
This thread has become a collection of web links to quality photographic work.
The photographers represented vary from icons of the past to the contemporary.

Please honor the RFF publisher’s request for honoring copyright. Links are best. Published photos should be watermarked or identified properly.

“bookmark” the thread and revive it with new material as it flows into RFF history.

Special Thanks or our friend Al Stieglitz, for the use of “Camera Work”.

Corrections, suggestions, etc. - please PM pkr / Neare

Those are both very good links, but since I have already posted in them, I won't do so here again.

However, I will say thanks for the idea and thread from both you and Pablito. I hope it works out well and stays alive, even though I don't think it is intended to be one that is constantly up. For what I think was the intent, it doesn't need to be.

Thanks again.

The site on which I found the Balinese series usually has some good stuff. Its part of the New York Times empire, so I imagine it has the funds to get the best of the best. It's certainly geared more towards the photo journalism side of things.

Here is the link

http://lens.blogs.nytimes.com/

PKR:

Those are both really outstanding links! I hope we can continue to get stuff of that caliber on here. Thanks for starting this.

There's an RFF member named FORMAL who posts a lot of stuff in the gallery but almost never seems to post on the forums. His street work in some of the best I have ever seen. I wish he participated in the discussions more, he would be interesting to talk to.

I had seen some pictures from Sergio Larrain, but honestly I was not very familiar with his work. Now, after a couple of times looking at I can only say that I understand what he means saying "The game is then to organize the rectangle.". And I understand how much I have to learn yet...
Thanks for the link, ciao
robert

Chris;
Please link some of your stuff to this thread!

pkr

Thanks ;)

Richard Youse was an 87 year old farmer who lived with his 15 cats in a ruined old house that he had lived in since he was a kid.

grandpa-eating.jpg

My grandfather, Charles Crawford, passed away in December of 2008. I had spent nearly 20 years photographing him. What you see on my website is just a small sample of my photos of him.

peace3.jpg

Every Friday at Noon, a group of peace activists gather at the busiest street corner in Santa Fe, New Mexico to protest the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I spent a couple of years photographing them when I lived out there.

nm-quay-landscape1.jpg

Some color! These are a series of photographs that I made along the route from Santa Fe to my hometown in Indiana when I came to Indiana to pick up my son so that he could visit me in New Mexico during the summer of 2007. (I didn't get custody of him till I moved back to Indiana a year later).

Some of the stuff linked above are ones I have not shown off as much on RFF, so I thought I'd show them here now.

Interesting links about Leibovitz. I agree she's a controverse person but a interesting and good photographer as well. And I read in her book "Annie Leibowitx at work" that her first camera was the same as my first serious camera! Of course it does not mean anything, but I like the idea !
robert

Robert; How was her book, I've been thinking of getting a copy?

I'm in SF and she went to Art school here in the 70s at the SF Art Institute. She then went to work for Rolling Stone, which was, at the time a local publication.

I think the thing that is a bit off-putting about her, are the stories of her treating her assistants badly. Did you watch the you-tube links? Her attitude toward her help actually comes up in the NPR piece. Everyone has a bad day.. but ..

I've heard stories, I won't repeat. I guess it's common knowledge in the "business". It's really too bad.

I can confirm them. No more to be said unfortunatly. Amazing photographer, very lost woman personally.

For me as well it is difficult to separate the artist from the human being and in this case I agrre with what has been said here. The book I bought is interesting because describes her various periods, from when learning to the various commercial works she made. Not so many pictures, but interesting to read.
