My M8 had some hot spots pr pixels that crated a thin line on one side of each image. It cost me $500 to get the repair package at Leica NJ. These are my first results with the repaired M8 and the Version 1 35mm Summicron. I used LR5 to transfer the DNG files to jpg, and no pp has been yet used with any of these images. I need to straighten out the horizon in some of the images.

I have a one year warranty on the work done to the M8. I like using older lenses for beach images with white sand and light green water. The not-so-high contrast lenses work nicely there.

It was a decision on whether to spend $500 on a camera that has a market value of $1000 and that most view as an outdated digital camera. I decided to have my M8 repaired and to continue use it side by side with my M9.

Hi Dave. Thanks!

I have been for years using the M8 and M9 side by side, and I am used to them both. I know how to best use them for my type of photography. If I had not repaired the M8, it would sell maybe for $750-$1250 with a disclaimer about the pixels issue. If I had kept it as is, I would be annoyed each week as I view my newly captured images.

Thank you, Helen. I start out with color images, and then some end up as B&W conversions. Is there a difference if I started out with B&W images with this camera?

You made the right decision Raid. It is terrible to think that you may have been throwing the camera in the bin if it wasn't fixed. Now you've got more years of use out of it. I've seen some excellent B&W from the M8's too. Try the jpeg B&W's first before converting from colour. I find this often works out better on my A7S anyway.

Hello Robert. I don't know the age of my M8. It was checked out and adjusted by Leica by the last owner, and I received the camera still wrapped up by Leica. It has the original sensor but a new shutter only to 1/4000.

Thanks, Huss.

Leica said that my chosen word was not what they would choose, but it was a "remapping" of the sensor, plus the RF adjusting and ... etc.
It was "a manual pixel and column correction".

It should be something between 2006 and 2008 according to WikiLeica.

I think it is a good demonstration that a digital camera can last many years and still make good photos :)

PS: my Leica x1 is from 2010 december and still works well!
